well , here is the deal...
i got this car way back in 95, so not sure if this is a factory installed security item, but regardless getting rid of it is my goal. My car has one of those IMHO stupid/annoying chip thingy that must be inserted in the slot under the steering collum in order for your car to start/run ... i think this may be a kill switch or something.. i haven't removed the damn thing in about 6 yrs. .. i would forget to put it in and would spend half an hour trying to diagnose why my car wouldn't start.. So .. my problem.. My car.. reliable yes, but cosmetically a POS was broken into yesterday.. god only knows why.. well probably because i didn't have it locked, but still .. nothing to valuble in it.. so i discover my backpack missing about 80 buck of stuff.. i can replace.. i am pissed off , but in a hurry to go out .. i get in my car and try to start it , and nothing.. The f***ing punks took my stupid little chip thingy.. and i don't have a spare. anyone with any knowledge of how to dismantle, or just bypass this .. i would really appreciate it.. If i can't do it myself , the ford dealership a**hole .. sorry but he wasn't very understanding.. will gladly deal with it after i tow my car there, and pay them a shit lode of money that i can't afford. I would hate to pay them 200 bucks to clip 2 wires and tape them together.. Thanks in advance, and sorry this was so wordy.. venting a little i guess, Ryan - socal , CA |

Man, this security device looked like it cost like 20 dollars, and came in a cracker jack box. And that may even be mean to cracker jacks, because i like their little useless toy distractions..
this thing consisted of a slot with six wires coming off the back of it, and it was attatched under the steering wheel. If you don't put the little circuit board key in the slot, then it doesn't start. ended up being a simple ignition interuption circuit. of the 6 wires, eventually 4 of them got bolted to the frame, and 2 in my case the purple and red ones.. split off to the ignition area. it was a little inconvenient taking off the plastic under my steering wheel, but after doing that and removing a little black electrical tape, it was easy to see where some installer probably getting paid good money, clipped 1 blue/black wire, and connected the "anti-theft" device in place. ************************************************** * in my opinion this is a cheap annoying device, and i was very glad to reconnect my long lost blue/black compadres! now no more worrying about losing my chip thingy! If a real theif wanted to get by this i think they could in under 15 secs. they wouldn't care about ripping into the under plastic. People who have these type of security systems beware, you are the same type that have the fake blinking red light and stickers all over. This site seems ok, looks like alot of people find good info!! didn't help me much with my problem, but i figured it out in a while, and it feels good not paying to tow it to the dealer, and then pay some tech to wirenut two wires together and charge me 100 bucks. The dealer wouldn't even talk to me about the issue untill i brought my car in and they did a diagnostic for 88.. talk about completely useless and unhelpful.. Thanks and good bye, Ryan ps. if they want it they will take it, be smart and cross your fingers!! |
