Unhappy Where is the PCV valve?

I have a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport and can not find the PCV valve? I have looked and looked and can not find it. I took the cover off the fuel injection to look into those dark and hidden areas.

Where is the PCV valve on this 4.0L V.6 SOHC?

Re: Where is the PCV valve?

I had a bear of a time finding the PCV also.
When I thought I found it, I couldn't remove it.
I marked it, took the car to the shop, had them replace the PCV, lo and behold I was right.
It's at the far rear of the engine between the black plastic plenum cover (that says SOHC) and the firewall. If you get on the passenger side and shine a flashlight in there, you'll see it. Lots of plastic and some hoses. Good luck.

Re: Where is the PCV valve?

I looked back there and saw something I thought could be the PCV valve. It has two hoses coming out of the top at 90 degrees. One to the left and one to the right and one hose out of the bottom. It also has a black plastic clamp around it to hold it in place. Is this it?

The replacement that I bought doesn't look the same. The new one is a metal cylinder with no Ts or elbows. The old one looks plastic. It the PVC vlave inside a plastic case????

The valve I bought at Auto Zone had a metal base.
The Ford one was plastic....no biggie.
That base slides into all that plastic.
All my older cars had that base slide into the valve cover, but I guess Ford thinks this is a better idea. It won't last, all that plastic is gonna get brittle.

Re: Where is the PCV valve?

Yes......this is where its located on the 6cyl sporties......Rear of the drivers side valve cover....the origional unit is plastic,,,the two rubber lines into it are water circulating from the water jacket outlet through, and around the PCV then back to the heater hose,(near the A/C unit) thus water cooling the PCV ???? the actual vent hose is in the usual position at the rear of the valve......to remove this little bugger you need to pop off the vent tube, remove the water cooling lines, then the valve will need to be turned 1/4 of a turn anti clockwise (towards you) then it will come free of the valve cover, its plastic so it will probably break, this could lead to valve cover removal (mine did) to access remove the coil and coil bracket (note spark lead positions) pop off vacume line in brake booster then you can get a good go at it, reversal is the same, but a 1/4 turn clockwise (away from you) and the valve locks into position,,,,,ME ?? I rerouted the water lines straight from the engine to the inlet near the A/C unit bypassing the PCV using the oricional tube and clips (30 second job) why water cool a bloody PCV future headaches ? Tip!!! have the new PCV at hand because ya gunna break the oldie its sooooo brittle....Tip 2..if the oldie is working ok,, forget the job and wash the car instead
