D15B2 and D16Z6

I am standing in my garage looking at two complete engines. A D15B2 and a D16Z6. My pops told me that we should take the D16 head, exhaust manifold, intake manifold, distributor, and alternator and put it all onto the D15 block. I would like some reassurance that this will some what of a preformance increase to build off of. Just wondering how to start my little toy.

Re: D15B2 and D16Z6

First off..what kind of car is it going in? Hatch...coupe? (assuming its a Civic)

And..I'd just use the whole D16Z6 engine...its a bigger more powerful engine so why would you want to use the D15 block? Unless you had the D15 already in a car and I guess you could just put the head from the D16 to save time and work and give you some VTEC....

But a SOHC VTEC isnt much more than a sound...it would be a fun project though....

You'll need the ECU for the D16Z6. And here's a little more info I found online: http://www.iapecc.com/mini_me.htm

Re: D15B2 and D16Z6

worthless to throw on a D16Z6 head onto a D15B engine if you don't already have a full D16Z6 longblock. You'll get better performance out of the D16. It would be a nice project to tackle though

Re: D15B2 and D16Z6

The reason I am going to put the D16 head onto the D15 block is is mainly because that is what me and my pops had decided we were going to do when we heard the knock coming from the bottom of the D16 when it ran. We assumed the worst that a main bearing had gone out and the block was scored so we thought it was trash. We pulled the oil pan off of the D16 when we got it out and found out it was only a rod bearing that had slipped and put bits of metal in the oil pan. So now we are going to go ahead with the original plan and construct the D15 with the D16 accessories. Any comments or advice on what we should do while we have both of the engines out and easy to access?

Oh yeah the car we are doing this to is a '93 Civic Ex Coupe.Know of any inexpensive and worthwhile accesories to get for the body for a mean look? Even though I was going for the sleeper look. I was just gonna get the windows tinted and then work mainly on the preformance aspect of the little car.

Re: D15B2 and D16Z6

My pops has informed me that we are using the D15 block with the D16 accessories because of economics. We have a good 1.5 longblock. And also a good 1.6 block. Are the crank and rods interchangable for these engines?
Whats the bore stroke of each engine? I have had no luck finding such information on the net.

Re: D15B2 and D16Z6

I dont know about that what you are talking bout sorry. I am having questions of my own though, if I put the D16 head on the D15 block with the stock D15 pistons still in the block will I have problems with valve clearance?
