top speed on trans-am & z28

OK, WS6's and SS's top out at 160 right, well what about the trans ams and z28s? Do they have a dumb limiter in them or are they still capable of doing the 160. I really want a ws6/SS but I'll get a trans am/z28 if it doesn't have it's speed limited. Well, limiter or not???

Ive been 155mph in my camaro z28. actually do it quite often I'm sure if you search the forums on this topic you'll find that z28s top out at around 160-165mph.

Re: top speed on trans-am & z28

93 is the only year that doesnt have a limiter i believe. dont quote me. however i do know that my 94 z28 does have a limiter. its set at 130. i still had farther to go hehe. anyways all it takes is a programmer. they are a couple hundred dollars they do other things as welll. however if you wouldnt get a z28 or trans am becuase of the limiter it would be cheaper to just buy a programmer. i am not sure that all programmers do it most will say if they do or not.

Re: top speed on trans-am & z28

If your car came stock with NON-Z rated tires, it has a limiter in it which should be somewhere around 110-115mph. It is also quite possible that it will have the 110mph speedometer, however, it doesn't necessarily have to.

I'm not real sure about the 130mph limiter. I'm thinkin either your car is just dying out at that speed, or someone had to have set that with programmin because I have never heard of a limiter being set at that speed.

Who cares about top speed. All you need to know is that it is fast enough to kill you.

Re: top speed on trans-am & z28

fast enough to kill you and a couple other people. save your top speed for the track, in which case your not gonna hit 115 too much. you can run 11's and 12's and not break 115. dont know about you guys but 11's and 12's are pretty good for street machines...

Re: top speed on trans-am & z28

my RS has a fuel cutoff at 115, i hit it all the time. and not to be argumentative, but you can kill yourself very easily at 25mph. even easier at 35, or 45, so whats the big deal doin 150+ ???

Yea but your chances of getting killed increase the faster you go.

Rembember, every time you double your speed, you quadruple *sp* you destructive force.
