originally, the firebird came out in reponse to the camaro, which came out in reponse to the mustang. the camaro was doing very well and pontiac didnt have a platform that could compete, so, the firebird was born...

Also soon after, they became very alike bodys due to them being made by the same makers...Also, its easier to tell between the V-8 and the V-6 Same with the camaro, The V-6 was camaro and the Z28 and SS was the V-8...
