What kind of trany fluid should I put in a '96 5spd 2.0 Jetta?

i believe it is the same as engine oil, but let me talk to someone and get back to you... don't put nothing stupid in there though. are you sure it is low? was the seal leaking?

Manual transaxles take 75W-90 gear oil, synthetics or blends are okay.

Thanx for the replies! I checked the fluid because of a grinding noise, and it came out like water, but the problem is fixed now, thanks.
