why would i buy a mustang?

I thought i was being reasonable. I posted this with the mustang guys, but the mod shut it down before i could get any feedback. just another case of the powers-that-be supressing the truth... Hoping i might get some responses here.

"Not trying to be a snob, but...
Could anyone tell me why I would want to buy a mustang over some of the options coming out of japan recently, namely the Evo and WRX? Purely in a straight line, something that American muscle cars usually dominate, both cars are faster than a Mustang GT, and the WRX Sti and Evo are faster than a Cobra or SVT. Not to mention that these cars could outperform the fords on a racetrack, generating far more lateral g's and more advanced suspension setups.
And then add in the cost factor. A WRX will tie a mustang GT in a straight line and cook it in the corners, and ties the price at $25k. And an Evo 7 and WRX Sti will give an SVT cobra a run for its money, while being $5000 cheaper, and arguably packed with much higher technology.
So maybe I'm overlooking something, and would like a different point of view. Anyone?"

Hey Snyperboy, learn to speak/write some Enlish, would you??

As far as I'm concerned, as a 2004 WRX owner, I cannot find any good reason to buy a mustang. As a matter of fact, I really cannot find very many good reasons to buy an American car in general. There are some ok cars here and there, but in general, their design, engineering, and manufacturing are quite atrocious these days.

Re: why would i buy a mustang?

Someone might want to buy a mustang if they are a dumb jock, or maybe they are not interested in perfomance because they are afraid to go fast or something. Or maybe their dad is going to buy them a car and they want one that will get all the hill billy chicks. I dont know the reasons for buying one but im sure there are some good ones like the reasons i have typed above.

I absolutely love the wrx as a car and my next car is gonna be a toss between a wrx or a skyline, but I can see why some people would buy the mustang over the rexi. For starters, and remember I love wrx's, but the wrx shape isn't really that sleek or sexy unless you can afford an sti which is out of range for many people out there. It really needs a sleeker, sportier look like the mustang which looks much better than the wrx or evo in my opinion. I mean just look at all the crap all the 4door skyline owners get for having a 4 door sports car. Second, many people would love a convertible which is an option on the mustangs but not on evos or wrx's. Third, some people just prefer to have the roar of a V8 rather than a turbo 4cylinder. I myself am neutral since i love the roar of my 290hp v8 but i also love the sound of a well tuned wrx boxer engine with a decent exhaust and blow off valve. Forth, mustangs are a legend, its got a heritage and a history and as such some people like mustangs because they have a better history and name than subaru wrx does for now. Yes I know wrx are rally champions many times over but not many people watch rally. fifth, unfortunately one of the weak link in the older wrx's is their factory gearbox which cannot withstand much modification and extra power over stock. Sixth, the stock wrx interior has always been pretty bland and plastic looking whereas the mustang Gt's come with a pretty nice looking leather interior all round.

PLease don't get all mad and write stupid angry replies because as i said before, I love the wrx too, i'm just presenting an objective view to the question. I for one would still choose a wrx over a mustang hand down any day, i just wanted to show some ways in which the wrx is lacking in my opinion. I agree though that a wrx is all and all a better performing and handling car. Just looses a bti on the looks with me.

Re: why would i buy a mustang?

The SVT Cobra is faster in a straight line
Aftermarket parts are cheap and plentiful
The Mustang is available as a convertible
I like the looks of the Mustang better than the STi, which I've owned for 6 months and it still looks strange to me.

All that having been said, I bought an STi for my current daily driver and the Mustang was never even a remote consideration, mostly because the Mustangs are useless in the snow (and it's snowing here now, BTW).

not faster really

the cobra is not faster really.. it all depends on set up.. if it was a red light race(don't race on the street!) the STI would beat it every time... if it was a track race, ALL stock, no slicks.. 1/8 is all STI, 1/4 mile is a toss up.. either could win... STI have run 12.9's on street tires.. with slicks it is the cobra all day long....

I believe these are the stupid comments that buymeabmwm3 was talking about white sti. Don't really need to explain why they are stupid, they pretty much speak for themselves

they even said it in the magazine that compared the 03 cobra with the STI. The STI was an equal if not better performer in some categories...but what it really boiled down to was whether or not the buyer had 'hot rod roots' and wanted that big block badass feeling. i'm not saying that's a bad thing.

ok thanks.. i was wondering what i said that was stupid... lol

let me be the first to say, I LIKE CARS, PERIOD...

i'm not into the domestic vs imports thing... either can be fast either can be a POS either can be reliable.. some cars are just better or worse in these catagories.. i like the cobra, heck i like mustangs in general, but facts are facts...i say if you want a mustang get one, if you like an STI or an evo etc get one of those... why fight? debate is one thing fighting is another... ok i'm rambling so i will shut up...... later

Re: why would i buy a mustang?

Ok so i guess it just comes down to a preference thing. I was posting somewhere else about how the Z06 and M3 have very similar stats on paper, but I'd take the M3 anyday just because of its feel. Thanks guys!
