Why would a 71-year-old man buy a Hummer?

"Because you can afford something different - and good God, it sure is different! Maybe I'm going back to my childhood. Maybe my grandson inspired me." This is how Leroy McAbee explained his vehicle of choice to AL.com's City Magazine. He also noted that "My wife and I use it - we ride down the road like two little teenagers."

Any number of attributes have been applied to Hummers, but not fountain of youth. Until now.

Hmmmm, interesting. Anybody found any practical reasons for buying luxury psuedo-off-road vehicles yet?

I'd still take an LJ-20, or Cj-7 over a pretend Hummer anyday.

If you prefer Jeeps to Hummers then you might like reading Jeep kicks sand in Hummer's windshield

I doubt Hummer will be able to steal the Jeep's "mystique" I doubt that the military Hummers basic design will be in service for as long as the Jeeps. And sizewise, even the H2 is too large and too expensive for many people to own as a second vehicle just for fun.

I puke at the thought!

"That is why the parking lot at the Hummer Driving Academy in South Bend, Indiana, where rich suburbanites come to learn how to drive off-road vehicles, is filled with Jeep Wranglers - the camp's instructors cannot afford Hummers."

Some people prefer Jeeps for their personal vehicle, some prefer Hummers, some prefer Harleys. That's what makes life interesting.

Wow, that is rather silly. They're not even going to take their hummers pretend off-roading. Should've just got a jeep, then they wouldn't be afraid to take it off road because it's not as overpriced.

Re: Why would a 71-year-old man buy a Hummer?

I for one think Hummers are great cars, and yes im talking about the H1, the H2 is baaad. Terribly bad. It is basically a vehicle giving a bad image to the hummer name, it may be a cheaper car to the real Hummer, but it will never, ever be an alternative to it, because there is no alternative to a hummer, they were designed to do a certain thing and that is EXACTLY what they are good at, not nessecarily the best, but, they are still among the best.
