no backup lights - reverse light switch?
Where is the reverse gear light switch? The "backup lights" don't function but the fuse is OK. Does anyone have a suggestion besides the switch? 96 2.0 5 speed 4 door. Thanks.

Re: no backup lights - reverse light switch?
There is no relay for the reverse lights on you vehicle. The reverse light switch should be on the top side of the transmission, near where the linkage goes in. It is a common failure. It has several wires as it has more than just the reverse light switch integrated into it (I think it has a 5th gear sensor too). To test, jumper the black/red wire (from fuse #14) to the black/grey wire which goes to the bulbs. If they light up (with the key on) then the switch has failed. If not look at the black/blue (yes, the wire changes color at a connector in the engine compartment) wires at the bulb holders to see if they have voltage when in reverse. The multi pin in-line connectors at the tail lights are also bad to get corroded. Also, be sure the bulbs are good.
