A-hole at work
OK. There are two South Africans at my work. Myself and someone else. We speak afrikaans to eachother, but only when it's just the two of us in a conversation, never when someoone else is involved, because that's just rude.
One of the guys there, who's a foreman of one of the workshops, is a real arrogant prick. He told me off once before for speaking afrikaans to this guy, says its rude. I ignored him. Today I was speaking afrikaans to the guy again, he fucking flips out at me. "I TOLD YOU FUCKING BEFORE TO SPEAK FUCKING ENGLISH. IF YOU DON'T WANT TO THEN FUCK OFF." *he goes to open the door. I smile at him and say it doesn't matter unless he's part of the conversation, it's a private conversation anyways so he doesn't have to here it*"IT'S FUCKING RUDE, WE FUCKING SPEAK ENGLISH HERE AND IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT YOU CAN FUCK OFF" I just shook my head at him and walked off. Not very impressed. The other Saffie reckons he's just picking on me, because when he teaches the other guys some afrikaans he is left alone. I think I get picked on because I'm younger than said arrogant kiwi. He is about 29, the Saffie is about 39, im only 19. If this happens again, first I will tell him "If you want me to respect you or your opinions, then don't ever talk to me like that again. If you don't like me talking afrikaans to him, then YOU can fuck off" Then I will go straight to the MD of the company and lay a complaint. I don't like bigots. He's discriminating against me which is against the law, and he's just got a guilty conscience because he thinks I'm talking about him. Apparently he does fuck all work out the back anyway. Not fucking happy.

That moron wouldn't last long in my shop. I only hear english about half the time. And if he ever said, "I TOLD YOU FUCKING BEFORE TO SPEAK FUCKING ENGLISH" he'd be fired by the end of the day.
By the way, what does afkricaans sound like?

Re: A-hole at work
Well this all really depends on how he asked you to stop the first time. If he asked you politely then you probably should have stopped, but if he was an asshole about it then you have no obligation to make him happy.
My family is Russian (but we live in the U.S.) and my parents both work at the same company which also has some other Russians. My parents understand that some people take offense when people talk in a different language in front of them, and they try not to do it most situations. But when people who originally speak the same are just socializing its ridiculous to expect them to speak a language that is foreign to them. In the case of my parents and other Russians, they wouldn't even understand each other with those accents. This guy sounds like he needs to chill out and be more accepting of people at his work. If he is so anti-social and/or racist he probably shouldn't work at a place where there is people.

Re: A-hole at work
Just file a complaint.
If it were me i woulda "snaped, lose it" The Champ"D But seriously, i would have probably just have ended up knocking hs ass to the floor. When i was in high school i had a Gym teacher pin me to the wodeen floor because i was sick one day and brought him a note. Later that day i found him at his car and kicked the hell out of him. Pinned him down to the ground and told him if he ever pulled anything like that agina with me or anyone else i would have him............. The profanity began there. But as i look back that was not the best way to handle it, BUT it worked. I even got an A ![]() Dont take shit from anyone, especialy a raceist FUCK like him. Tell your boss and let the system deal with his dumb ass. |

Like I said, make sure the drums falling onto him from the forklift looks "accidental" What an asshole, it's not his fucking business to interject in ones conversation.
He should be working in McDonalds. |

Ok, time for my
. And hang on because you may not like it.As most anyone around here knows, I have lived in Japan for a long time. I speak Japanese fluently, so I have a pretty good grasp of what is happening around me. I cannot count the amount of times that I have been sitting around and had two or more japanese strike up a conversation about me. I am sitting right there and they will rattle off things that are often no big deal, but sometimes they will say something rude or downright insulting. I handle these situations on a case by case basis, however, no matter what they say about me, it STILL pisses me off. I am right there. You have something to say? Say it to me, not your friend. Case in point number two. I was a Marine for 8 years. There is a large concentration of Philipinos in and around the US Navy and Marine Corps. I have always found it rude if two people speak a language in front of me, while conducting business. If it is a private personal conversation, have it after hours or while on a break. But do not have it in front of your customers. That being said, possibly the guy has a persecution complex and feels he is being talked about behind his back. Maybe he is jealous that he cannot speak a second language. My best advice is to keep the private conversations in private. Or better yet, offer the fucker free lessons. You can go a long way in just explaining what you were talking about. Know that doesn't help, but like i said, just my perogative.

That was pretty rude of that guy to blow up at you like that. I know a couple of guys that always spoke french to each other, and I found it annoying because I like to know things. If I don't know what's going on, I get irritated. So maybe that's where that guy is coming from.

Re: A-hole at work
Well, I'd say in most cases I would consider it rude, if others are around, they'd wonder why you aren't speaking english, and think you're trying to hide something from them.
If however, somebody didn't speak english (or whatever is normal for where you are) then it's o.k. even the most paranoid people would probably understand your reason. However, I also think that guy was being a jerk for taking it so seriously, and should lighten up about it.

Re: A-hole at work
You guys have to realise that as Saffies, Afrikaans is a little bit of home to us.
I know when I was in London, being able to converse with somebody in Afrikaans was great because it was a reminder of home to me. Plus, having spoken Afrikaans to Toksin/Toskin (whatever his name is this week ), he needs all the practice he can get

Re: A-hole at work
The thing is, when the other Saffie walks in and they're talking, they drop their voices to a whisper so he can't hear.
