Front wheel drive question

Why is FWD not good for drag racing? It seems like it would be better for it? The whole drivetrain is practily sitting on the tires. Engine, trans, ect. Because everytime i drag race, the FWD cars seem to beat me coming out from a sitstill, and i'm not spinning and they are. Anyway, any helpful answers would be appreciated.

Re: Front wheel drive question

I think of it this way - sit in a rolling chair. Now, using your feet and facing forward - pull yourself forward. See how hard it is?

Now, turn around and push off - see how much easier it is?

Pushing off is easier than pulling.

Re: Front wheel drive question

not that great, but they work.

you've also got to consider weight transfer.

when you floor it, weight moves back.

away from the drive wheels.

fwd tends to spin more off the line, simply due to the tire size and inability to build the BEST suspension to put that power to the ground.

in rwd cars, you don't have to worry about the motor being in the way of your links, etc.

also. solid axle cars, like most rwd drag cars, are better at putting the power down.
that's why vinny ten has a ford 9" in the rear of his supra.
that's why the IRS cobras don't have as good 1/4 times as they should.
fwd is independent suspension, this is another issue.

Weight transfer.

This photo I took should explain why it is bad to have the front wheels be the power wheels:

The best option for drag racing is RWD with the engine over the rear wheels .... uhm, like an MR2 for example
