Unhappy broken Shift Lock on a automatic transmission

I'm having a problem with the automatic transmission on my civic, the damm thing won't shift out of park unless I use the shift lock release switch(even though the brake is depressed)..I thought it might have to do with the brake light sensor but the brake lights still work..
