Re: testing Idle air controller

No way to really test it, but you can at least check for opens or shorts in teh coils. Look online for the test, its out there somewhere. But it involves putting a meter across adjacent pins and the resistance should be within a certain range when its warm, or another range when its cold. I forget the numbers. It is also possible for a bad ISC to pass this test though, but I wont go into why. Check out the vfaq on idle control issues if you havent already, there are many other things thast can cause problems.

Re: testing Idle air controller

I have changed them before, and never broken one. But be careful, the plastic piece inside can get brittle over time. Another thing you can do to check it if you have it removed is to leave it plugged in, with the little platic tip where you can see it. Turn the key to the on position and see if it moves a good bit then goes back. If it just sits there twitching and not really moving, it could be bad.
