97 Blazer idle air control valve test

I have a 97 Blazer with a high idle, and I'm getting a p0507. I need to know if there is a way to test the idle air control valve before i put $100.00 out in a new one

Might want to pull it off and clean it, and the passages, with throttle body cleaner first. DO NOT move the pintle valve, moving it can strip the threads inside it. There is a test for the IAC but it requires a high end bi-directional scan tool. The cheapie scan tools that the auto parts stores have can not access the test.

So I guess the only thing I can do at this point is to buy a new one and see what happens.
Does anyone know where I can get one for a LOT LESS then $100.00

Did you remove it and clean the passages? If not, even a new one will do the same thing after a short period of time leaving you right where you are now, only $100 poorer.

Re: 97 Blazer idle air control valve test

i cleaned all the passages and the valve but it still dont work right, maybe i should tell you why i need a new one.
about 1 year ago i blew the tranny and it sat till about 2 months ago. i rebuild the tranny and put it back in, when i first fired up the truck the idle seemed abit high, well i let it go cause it didnt seem that bad but when we got our first snow thats when i found out how high it was, i had trouble stopping the truck and when i went from park to drive it would take about 3 seconds to change, also as im coming to a stop the rpm is running high but i cant tell how high cause i dont have a rpm gauge but after i come to a stop the idle comes down to about 1000-2000 after a few seconds but not all the way down to a proper idle. i did notice a small gap at the idle screw and if i pullthe linkage back to the screw the idle comes down but when i let it go it goes back up and the cable is fine-lots of play.

Re: 97 Blazer idle air control valve test

I see, sounds like it's time to take the throttle body off and clean it out with throttle body spray cleaner. Probably a build up of crud behind the throttle plate. Try that and see what happens.
