Unhappy GMC Sierra Engine Fires

I have heard that both the Sierras and the Silverados have trouble with explosions or engine fires, on factory models, with no apparent cause or reason. Has anyone had this problem, and if so, what was the cause? I want to buy one but have been told by many people about the fires.

Re: GMC Sierra Engine Fires

I have not seen any C/K trucks with engine fires or explosions..matter of fact, this is the first time I have ever heard of such.
Where did you get your information?

Re: GMC Sierra Engine Fires

The info came from a State Tropper in Mississippi, as well as fire departments in 2 separate states. I don't believe it, which is why I am checking. If that had happened, wouldn't it have been all over the news?

Re: GMC Sierra Engine Fires

I looked at a burnt engine out of a 97 Yukon on the weekend at a wreckers yard, and also if you check the Vancouver, B.C. news, a 99 Suburban burned on the side of highway 99 on the way to the ski resort "Whistler" over the weekend. Lots of vehicles have fires, probably no more on GMCs than any other vehicle, and I've never heard of any "Exploding", I think somebodys been watching too much TV.

Re: GMC Sierra Engine Fires

Yes, but it isn't me. It was my brother that met the trooper and the firemen who told him this. He also has a friend who has a GMC/Chevy full size pick-up and told him that he parked his truck, walked away and the engine blew. This is why I am posting this thread, to see if there is any merit in the claim. I don't buy it and it makes no sense to me. Honestly, if the truck had been altered by the owner, i can see it having problems, especially if it was a crappy job to begin with.

I'd love to know what the determined cuase of this was? I have not heard of any such thing happening. I'm driving a 99 with over 100k and have only had to do PM to it. She's still running strong and looks almost as good as the day I bought her. Really curious about your incident though...

Fires

9 out of 10 vehicles you see that have burned are Fords, I am 61 and it has been like that for as long as I can remember. I have a 92 GMC Sierra w/184,000 and a 01 w/23,000 and have never had any problems and have not heard of any fire problems.
