Question 2000 GMC Sierra Engine Swap or Rebuild??

My bearings went out on my 4.8 in my 2000 GMC Sierra this past weekend. I am trying to determine the difficulty of putting a bigger (5.3 or larger) engine in or would it be better and more cost effective to rebuild the 4.8? My husband has a brand new 327 meant for a project car, would this work in my Sierra?? I recently had the trans rebuilt, it has a body and suspension lift (and 456 gears due to the lift) and is a good looking truck and I don't want to get rid of it. Now if only it ran! Any information would be appreciated!!!

That 327 most likely won't work beacuse it's probably a Gen I smallblock Chevy. Any other engine other than the one you have now would require some computer work, possibly and entire computer swap. OBD II systems which is what's running (or should I say 'was running') your truck are incredibly sensitive to change and modification. If it's only the bearings you can drop the crank, get a new one and new bearings or have the original crank milled and polished and put in oversized bearings. If you do it yourself, it shouldn't cost you more than a couple hundred bucks for the crank, bearings, oil pan gasket, and you might as well replace the oil pump while your in there.

Another option is a reman which is sometimes cheaper than rebuilding the engine.Jasper is one choice for a reman and cheaper than a GM reman with a 3 year 100,000 mile warranty.Calculate the price of parts and machine work that has to be done first
