Question '94 Royale CV shaft vibration at Tranny

My '94 Royale has a very noticable vibration at 60-75 mph in the front. I found that the CV shaft is loose where it connects to the transmission on the passenger side of the car. You can move it up/down or side/side over 1/8" by hand. I have removed the wheel on the passenger side and at speed you can see it wobble near the transmission and the strut will vibrate where the spring connects. I have replaced both CV shafts and the problem is no better.
The only option at the moment is to remove the transmission and replace the bearing in that area. The cost just to remove and replace the transmission is nearly $500 plus whatever is required for the fix!!!

Any similar experiences with this problem???
