I am thinking about buying a 2000 eclipse GT and I have done a lot of research. I read people saying they are not very reliable and not to get one. Few have said they are good cars. I just want an honest opinion from a few people who own one here in this forum.

Re: Eclipse GT info
Like every other car, the eclipse has some problems. I can't say that I've had 0 problems. I've had small problems with brakes, battries, headlights and windows (all low cost repairs...). However, these are not big problems they are all wear and tear.
I have a GS with about 55 k miles. Engine is perfect even with a bunch of aftermarket accessories to squeeze every bit of power available. Most people who talk trash about the 3G Eclipse don't own one and probably haven't driven one. Do a comparison with other cars in terms of reliability... A lot of other cars, like cavaliers and neons usually needs an engine replacement or major drivetrain repair withing 60k miles or 3 or 4 years. |

Re: Eclipse GT info
Thanks for the info. I am going to look at a 2000 gt w/42k miles $9995 tomorrow. I have a 2000 prelude and its had its share of problems too. Minor but problems none the less.Too many for me to say honda reliable. Prelude parts are expensive! I hope the fun factor and performance is the same. Thanks for the info guys. I will let you know what I think once I drive or buy the eclipse.

Re: Re: Eclipse GT info
Well, I'm not too sure that you'll get much more power from the eclipse. The prelude has a great 2.2-liter VTEC twin cam engine that's rated at 200hps. I've driven one of those and it revs like it's on drugs. However, the eclipse has a much larger dispalcement and much more torque.
I do think that both are great cars, but IMO the eclipse is much nicer looking and the ecilpse does have a slight power edge on the prelude. However, even though in 2000 both cars sold for about $26k, the prelude is a rare car and you will probably have a much higher resale value. You'll probably have enough to buy the GT and some extras as well (like turbo/supercharger kit, wheels and some...) |

Re: Eclipse GT info
I LOVE MY CHILD (2000 Eclipse GT). I have now 93,000 miles and I haven't had any problems with my car until I slide on some ice and ran into a curb. Not only do I feel they are reliable cars but they look great. I have had my car for 4 years and I couldn't purchased a better car. Good Luck...buy one you won't regret.
