Security light on 1999 Transam

Hi people,
I have just imported a firebird to the UK, and have just gotten it home and i noticed the security light has been on all the way from the shipping yard.
I has no effect on starting the vehicle and the red led flashes on the dashtop when it is armed.
I've searched on the internet for ideas why this light is on when driving, and everything i've tried has not worked. I've cleaned the key and used the spare, resynced the remotes, changed settings using the manual, no such luck. I've also found out that there could be a short or break in the passkey wiring on the steering column, i could do with some advise on how to get to the ignition cylinder lock and where these wires are to check if there is a problem with the ignition lock.
Any help would be appriciated.
Cheers,
Aaron.
