1999 Astro security light/ignition problems

My 1999 Astro has been having an intermitent problem with it not starting. This van doesn't have a pass key. I've been told by mechanics that are working on it that only the Chevy dealer has the manuals to fix this problem. My mechanic spent 1.5 hours looking through manuals at the dealer and wasn't able to find anything. He's gonna check again tomorrow. I have an after market alarm on it but the peolpe who installed it said it wouldn't have anything to do with the factory security system. Any ideas?

you van has the passlock system. first is the security light flashing? post back. a scan with a tool capable of reading body codes would be a help check for passlock codes. also in data see been check to see if the fuel has disabled. as far as the alarm not causing it: after market alarms and remote starters are the cause of many problems, alot of times from the crappy installation work ie: scotch locks with no connection or the wire cut in two, butt connectors with bad crimps. also the service eng. light not being on does not mean it has no codes.

Just thought I would point you to a really good discussion on the Malibu forum.
