My 3000 stall is in the maro!!!
M friend and I installed my 3000 stall this past weekend.
We took our time, so in total from the time I put the car up on jackstands to the time we took it down, there was prolly about 20 hours of working on it over a couple of days. Mind you, we stopped periodically to BS, eat, take breaks, etc... While we had the tranny out, we also installed a drain plug kit in the tranny pan, put in a new tci racing filter and gasket, and put on a new energy suspension polyurethane mount. We also cleaned up the bottom of the car a bit so the drivetrain looks pimp right now... Sadly, I didn't get to test drive the old girl, since there was lots of snow on the road and I had already gotten stuck in 2 inches of snow on my driveway for about 45 mins just trying to move the car from one stall to another... Anyways, we finished late on Saturday, so on Sunday before cleaning up the garage we also put in an air foil and replace the ugly black TB clean air cover with a red powdercoated cover that has Z28 engraved in silver on it... I also got to put on the 4 sets of blackouts that my parents got me for christmas. They are all smoke. Got them for the headlights, foglights, corner markers, and taillights. I think they look great, and I'll try to get you guys some pics next time I am home. Hopefully it'll be nice and sunny for a photo shoot... Just thought I'd share...

Let me know how she drives with the new converter, especially in regular stop & go traffic, reverse, etc...
I need a converter too but I can't get over this dude's Callaway Camaro near me - whether its because the car has become a piece of shit in the last few years or not, but its so hard for the guy to drive at low speeds. Its only a 2400-2600 stall, and half the time he comes to the car meets the bitch stalls as hes trying to reverse into a parking spot. Its like he's got to rev the engine up in reverse to a certain RPM until it starts to move a bit - sounds like shit. But I know there's other issues with this car. I'd like to get every input possible from you when you start driving (can't believe you even attempt to get around in all this white shit!). I'm pretty sure I'm going to get a mild 2400ish stall Vigilante converter in the spring - part of a 3.73 gear/bearing/diff cover/bolt package from Thunder Racing. btw, who made your converter? Light 'em UP! |

Re: My 3000 stall is in the maro!!!
DVS: First off, I wasn't able to drive the car at all on the road, but I did pull it in and out of the garage to change stalls when I was done, to store it again. I didn't have any trouble with it at all. And I even did a brake stand in the garage to see what she would hold to. On the polished cement floor the tires didn't spin till about 2200rpms. I'm assuming on a roadway, I'll be able to stand it up to about 2500, maybe a bit higher with DR's. However, it easily rolled forward and backward by simply letting off the brakes, and there was absolutely no change in my cars idling. I let it sit and run for almost 20 mins when cleaning out the garage after the install in the 10 Deg weather and it didn't so much as cough once. I think that guys vette is just over the hill or something...

My uncle has a 3500 RPM stall with no lockup and i can't tell a difference between the stock one and the new one. Worse gas mileage thats aobut it. BTW his car is a '89 Turbo Trans Am.
Good job with your car. If you could could you send some pics of that airbox? It sounds extremely PIMP! There is something to be said about putting your own stuff in your car. Gotta love that feeling when you get done with it. It's kinda like the old saying... "A man who cuts his own wood is warmed twice."

Amen brother. If you don't do it yourself there's no pride in it. I wouldn't love my car so much if I had someone else do it.

Re: My 3000 stall is in the maro!!!
You can look at my list of mods by clicking on the link in my sig. I have done every single mod to the car so far. Some I had help, some I didn't, but I was always there turning wrenches whenever something was to be done.
I have to make an exception this spring though as I am having my mechanic install my gear kit. I just don't have the tools or a nice lift to be able to do it right. I also might have him install the transgo shift kit. Other than that though, I do and have done everything on my car. |

Sounds wicked RedZ. So which converter did you get? (What make/model).
Eh Hypsi, which converter do you think is better - lockup or non-lockup? Every shop I've spoken with have said since my stock converter is a lockup design there's no reason to change. By the way RedZ, is the converter you got a lockup or not?? I'm starting to wish it was summer... |

Re: My 3000 stall is in the maro!!!
Mine is a lockup verter. (Saves a little on gas mileage)
It's actually a custom built from Larry's Automotive in Texas. A guy had purchased it for his camaro but had to sell the camaro and never installed it. He had a great price (approx. $225), so I jumped at it. It is rated with a 3000 stall speed and is built to handle up to 700+hp. It has been blazed, leak tested, and balanced. It is a nice piece of machinery for the price...

For me it depends on what the car is. My car is a street machine. now the TTA is also a street machine but it makes alot more power than mine. He also has to turn a bigger turbo then me, so, It needs a higher stall and a little more slippage. All I know is that his car weighs 3,745 lbs nothing is gutted or stripped or anything like that. He even has a 4k sterio system in it. (Ill get pics if you guys want them.) and it runs mid 10's and his 60' times in the 1.43 range. (For you guys that go to a strip you know how good that is.)

Holy shiat man, that is hauling ass. Most people are tickled when they can pull a 1.6-1.8, but a 1.4, that is almost insane for a street machine...
