well if you need to find out how much the parts cost, you should call 411 and get autozones # it's not like we have a parts list here in our heads.

Re: New 2 the MARO world...need help

a catalytic converted installed would probably be a couple hundred dollars. If you want though you could have it replaced with a high flow cat that would increase the power a bit.

I dont understand how a mechanic could tell you that your crankshaft is worn without actually looking at it himself. Replacing that would be alot of work and cost alot also. If would always suggest getting a second opinion from another shop though to help you compare prices better and also make sure people arent trying to rip you off.

all i can tell u is don't believe that crankshaft bs, that fag is lying to u, he would have to get under your car, raise then engine, take off the pan all to inspect your crank. i bet he didn't do any of those, i hate mechanics that lie to people to try and get more money...

Re: New 2 the MARO world...need help

ok, the cat, costs a few hundred from the dealership, get an aftermarket bolt in replacement, its a helluva lot cheaper and can do the same job. if at all possible replace it yourself. you can buy small oxy/acetalyn (sp) torches and heat the pipes and hammer them apart. then slide in the new one, i suggest having very thick work gloves to use, you will need alot of elbow grease in addition to the torch to get the exhaust aprt. a set of jackstands or ramps are also advized.

the crap about the crank, is bullshit, you cannot hear crank noise with a mechanics stethescope, you can hear lots of things, rod knock, piston slap, yadda yadda, but if the crank was actually making enough noise to hear with the stethescope, you would have metal shavings in your oil pan, if the engine hadnt completely seized already. I was a chevy tech for a cumulative 2.5 years. and i have NEVER heard of a crankshaft wearing out, especially in a 1999 model car. i wouldnt take my car there anymore if i were you.

as far as the power steering, the cost of repair depends on where the leak is, and what all has to be done.

Well to answer you , the cat bein bad will cause backpressure and thats not good. SO if u can cut it out and put in a pipe,or a highflow cat.AS FOR THE RIPOFF GUY,don't give anything because if the car runs as good as u say u would be able to hear a rod knock if u had one.He just pulled out the scope to make u think he was on the up and up.Any body that works on a car for a living could hear a bottomend knock without that scope. He did that for show because u r a girl.
