gas gauge

Hello Folks, I am new to this forum and was wondering if I could get some help. The gas gauge on my '96 grand is acting funny. I have "stuffed it" with gas the last couple weeks and the gauge only reads 3/4 full. I would imagine if the gauge was stuck it would remain at 3/4 for awhile but it doesn't. Anyone seen this before?

Re: gas gauge

Your sending unit in the fuel tank maybe going bad and sending the wrong reading to the gauge. There is a way to check it with a digital tester if you know a parts dealer, they can tell you what the resistance is sopposed to be for that sender.

Re: gas gauge

I am having the same problem with my gas gauge on my 99 GC. The gauge started out read under full when I filled it up and then it was ok for awhile and then just started going crazy over the last week up and down, not even close to reading the right amount. What kind of tester would I need to do the resistance test and where do I conduct the test? Will I have to splice into the wires right down by the gas tank. Thank you. A newbie here,
