Questions? gas driveability help me please!
Well having been involved in an accident and totaling my 95 escort, I decided its time to step up. I drove one of my friends 95 GT's with the 5.0. It was a beast short throw shifter, flos, system etc Well im pretty much convinced I want one. A 94-95 GT But i have a question about gas. Like whats the typical average mpg and do i have to buy premium? HWat would happen if i used midgrade or regular? Besides affecting performence, how would the engine hold up? And are there anyother things i should know about? Problem areas and such. How are they as a daily driver?

average - 20 mpg
regular is all you need, using a mid grade or higher octane gas (as discussed many times already here) on a stock or lightly modded vehicle with low compression and no power adders is pointless. in fact it will cause pinging, which is not a good thing if you dont know. whatever the original owners manual says it what you should use, its not a suggestion! engines are designed to run at certain temps, with certain fuel, and therefore run best economically and efficiently(powerwise) that way. just to let you know. As a daily driver they are just fine except in snow or heavy rain of course!

Re: Questions? gas driveability help me please!
I dont know where u get 20 miles to the gallon but there aint no way it would get that in the city. I have a stock 96 Mustang GT and I get about 16 mpg in the city I dont go on highway that much. With the years u want having the 5.0 you are gonna get less than me. So u can expect around 16 if u drive it slow. I drive my car pretty hard which is why I get low gas mileage but I dont think u will ever get 20 in the city. It iwill run fine on regular gas. I love my car it is my daily driver to school and work, all I can say is get a manual if possible it is so much more fun to drive.

well think about it razor, if most "newer" mustangs range between 17 - 22 mpg, isnt 20 right in the middle? try getting your injectors checked out and it might be different. i got between 18 and 21 on my 92 GT w/ 127,000 on it.
Yeah a manual can be more fun and it keeps you busy on those boring trips. But if your so worried about gas mileage chip....escort, an automatic will get better gas mileage hands down. But when it comes to choosing trannies, think what you'll be happy with in the long run and decide!

true automatics get you worse gas mileage but an automatic escort would get u better gas mileage than a manual 95 GT or any manual mustang for that matter.

A major factor on your milage is how you drive the car. Whats the point of having a V8 unless you use the power every now and then?
![]() Most V8 models from the 90s get in the high teens as a mixture of city and highway driving. |

Re: Questions? gas driveability help me please!
I love my 96 GT and it is my daily driver. I have only had it for a month or so now and it has just over 60K miles but I havent had any problems. With a GT its got a good amount of power so u can always have some fun on the road when you want to

Re: Questions? gas driveability help me please!
my mileage is around 18 city 24 highway. highway is high because of the 6 speed.

a 4 or 5 speed automatic overdrive transmission will "usually" always get a little bit better highway gas mileage than a 4 or 5 speed manual will. my 87 standard cab f-150 EFI 5.0L with a 4 speed OD manual gets about 16 - 17 highway. my friends 86 f-150 ext.cab EFI 5.0L with an AOD gets like 18 - 20 highway. And i'm not making this up to win the argument. thats why i said what i said to begin with. now yes ive never driven any 94 - up mustang, nor do i know anyone that drives one, so maybe it is a bit different with mustangs. but the whole point of having an automatic overdrive is for better fuel economy at highway speeds. then add a lockup converter and you'll do even better.

In that instance, yes the AOD probably will. If you look in general, a man will normally get better mileage.
If you were to use the same two in just city driving, the manual will get better mileage.

Re: Questions? gas driveability help me please!
i own a 94 mustang gt..bone stock..still even has the air silencer on it....
and gas milage on the freeway is good. i get the same as my mom's 95 jetta glx so i mean i go about 75 miles on a quarter of a tank. But once you get to city traffic, it just goes down hill from there. you do however get one fun little car |
