Angry insurance rates suck

so yesterday i called the insurance agency "state farm". well my mom did actually... but for me-a 16 year old male, it would cost me about $1097 every 6 months on an 89 5.0 LX. if i remember correctly this is full coverage. do you guys think that it is really worth it to get a mustang or just find a car that would have less insurance rates. and any suggestions for different cars would be great.

Re: insurance rates suck

I feel your pain dude. A 16 year old male is going to get skrewed on insurance. I paid even more than that on an 90 Iroc Camaro when I was in high school. Just check around but any sports car is going to be high.

Re: insurance rates suck

I was in the same situation as you dude. I just bought my 96 GT about a month ago or so. It would have $475 a month for me, because I'm 17. We have insurance from some little place and we only carry liability, if you only carry liability then the car you drive doesnt matter it just depends on the driver. So when I changed driving from my 95 Lebaron to my mustang GT my insurance didnt change at all.

Re: insurance rates suck

I'm a lot older than you and a female. But, when I was 19 I had a Iroc and All State and State Farm wanted to charge me an arm and a leg. I actually found a small insurance company that insured me for about $1,700 a year. You may want to see if you could just be added as a driver to the car under your parent's insurance. However, this may not be an option if there are already 2 cars in the household. If so, then the insurance company would automatically list you as a full time driver and sky rocket the rates. Be prepared to deal with high insurance til you're 25 or til you get married.

Re: insurance rates suck

well after talkin to my mom she said the insurance would drop to 899/6months if i can somehow mange to get a B average in school. then i can take a test on a video about safety and have it drop even more, and on top of all that i get 10% off for drivers ed. so as hard as its going to be im gonna try and keep my damn grades up :\

Re: insurance rates suck

At any rate, your still going to pay out the ass cause of your age. My insurance just went down from $3,200 to $2,800 a year. That's also for 2 cars with full coverage at a step 15, and I'm also 24.

I am 16 with a 1999 red v6 mustang and my insurance is about $575 every 6 months. I thought that was pretty good.

Ooh we're talking an 85 Iroc that I got in 1987....so now I guess you know my age. There was nothing added to boost speed or anything like that. I just loved that car and had to have it. I sold it 7 years later because I started having problems with it.

I think that is a pretty good rate, especially since you're 16.

man you guys don't know what bad insurance rates are... here in New Brunswick the rates are nuts. like a 89 beater corolla is 1200 a year - for a clean 24 year old.. you don't even pay like 700 for that junk. also a clean 24 year old driving a 00' jetta wagon is 2500.

For me and my mustang - no offcail quotes yet- but were estimating around 6000-7000 a year. i got some serious racing to do if i want to make that kind of cash.. sigh i hate this shit hole..

My insurance for the Grand National and the Ranger is like 103 a month. I pay more for my Ranger under liabialty then I do for the GN with full coverage. I'm 20 years old, clean record, and a B student. I pay 52 a month for the GN
