VIP RS3000 Piezo "Chirper" ('98 Camry LE)
I have a problem with the Piezo chirper on my Camry's VIP RS3000 alarm. It seems to be dying. Whenever the chirper sounds, it is much more faded and non-constant than it was when I first bought the car (in 1998)
I was wondering if anyone knows where, exactly, the chirper is located so I can replace it with a beeper from Radio Shack or something, that has a better tone. Thanks, Daniel |

Re: VIP RS3000 Piezo "Chirper" ('98 Camry LE)
I'm not too sure as to where the part of the V.I.P. system that produces the "chirp" is located in the car, but I do know that the sounds from the alarm fading, sounding drowned out, or like it's "dying" can be caused by a low battery in your keyless remote, and it can also be caused by corroded battery terminals. Try these before attempting to modify any part of the V.I.P. system.

So, the battery in the remote could be effecting the beeper in the car?
I found the chirper under the hood. It looks like an ordinary $3 buzzer that you can find in Radio Shack. But, I don't want to replace it if I don't have to. |

Re: VIP RS3000 Piezo "Chirper" ('98 Camry LE)
Yes, it is possible that it can be the battery in the keyless remote that causes the low tone sound. I've had this happen with mine twice already, I took it to the dealer the first time, and they said that I should have replaced the battery in the remote. After that, I did, and ever since, it's worked fine. The batteries in the remote can die rather easily for some reason. You really don't have to replace the "chirper" thing anyways, it usually has nothing go wrong with it until way after the car dies.
BTW - You said that you found the "chirper" under the hood. Where is it at under there?

Re: VIP RS3000 Piezo "Chirper" ('98 Camry LE)
Well, when you have the hood open, and you're facing the car, it's back to the far right (driver's side). It's fastened to a hose by ties. If you can't find it, just sound the chirper and follow the noise. That's what I did. ;-)

Re: VIP RS3000 Piezo "Chirper" ('98 Camry LE)
All right, thanks for the info. I'm going to go out there in a bit and check it out for myself. I'll see if there is something that can be done to make the noise stop. I'm wondering if just out right disconnecting it would work, or if it would cause the system to mess up, oh well, guess I'll have to try it and see...wish me luck!

I can tell you have to disable it without disconnecting it if you'd like.

Re: VIP RS3000 Piezo "Chirper" ('98 Camry LE)
Well, by all means, tell me. I've been looking all through the hood of the car back along by the firewall, trying to find the thing, and I can't seem to find it. For some reason it sounds like it's coming from underneath the trim panel that goes under the wiper arms...but if you can, tell me how to disable this.

Re: VIP RS3000 Piezo "Chirper" ('98 Camry LE)
Sure. The steps are as follows:
1. Insert key into ignition, and turn to "ON" position. 2. Hold down both buttons of the alarm remote until alarm indicator light turns on (in car). 3. Press the lower button on the remote once. (Piezo chirper sounds once) 4. Turn key to "LOCK". (Piezo sounds three times.) And you're done! Let me know if it doesn't work and I'll see what's going on. |

Re: VIP RS3000 Piezo "Chirper" ('98 Camry LE)
I have tried that one, I managed to find a programming guide somewhere online thanks to browsing the forums a bit, but that one didn't work. It made the sound three times, and flashed the lights, but it didn't stop it from beeping. So what I'm needing is some help finding it under the hood so I can attempt to disconnect it. I've looked around on the firewall and I couldn't find it anywhere, I keep sounding the alarm, and the only place where it leads me is around the throttle assy. I can't find anything that goes to the alarm around the throttle body, so where else could it possibly be?

What does the chirper look like? I did find a round 1/2 inch item tied to a hose, as suggested before, with a red top and what looked like a silver disk which is seen through a small round hole in the red top. Have no idea what this is. |

I actually like it chirping bc it lets me know its locked and unlocked. when i tried to programj it to make sure its on, it makes the 3 chirps, but then i try to lock the doors and it doesn't make the sound. any answers? please.....my dad and i were outside trying to look at it under the hood bc someone said u could replace it w/a chirper from radioshack. let me know where it is. it randomly will chirp like every couple months. Please, any help would be apppreciated. Thank you

Re: VIP RS3000 Piezo "Chirper" ('98 Camry LE)
I have a '98 Camry LE also. The chirper does not work at all. I programmed the alarm system to let it sound when arming and disarming (the default setting on this alarm) and still nothing. All I hear are 2 clicks, similar to the sound of a relay switching positions in the dash. I suspect I need a new chirper. Can I get one from Radio Shack? Has anyone done this repair before? What part number do I need? Thanks for any suggestions.
