Programming remote keyless entry for '98 Camry LE
Hi,
I recently lost the remote keyless entry to my '98 Camry LE and was looking at replacements. I think it is the RS3000(Gray)system and was wondering how easy it would be to program it if I bought it off the internet. The dealer I bought it from is quoting a price of $68 and said they would program it for free. I know that I could buy a genuine Toyota replacement for cheaper, but was wondering if it would be easy enough to do it? The dealer said I would need a computer to program it but I know that some remotes can be programmed without it. I would appreciate any help on this. Thanks! |

Re: Programming remote keyless entry for '98 Camry LE
Hi Truco,
My name is John, I just bought a Camry LE 98. It has an alarm system but they lost the remotes. It has a button which you can push in and out on the dashboard, its located on the left side next to the steering wheel. is this the RS3000 model? I found alot of remotes at ebay but they are just remote keyless entry. Could you please let me know which one I should get? I am 95% sure that yours is the same with mine from what you mentioned. Thanks, John [email protected] |

To all concerned,
Be careful with which 98 Camry remote you buy... An alarm system installed at the factory takes one remote, and alarms installed by a dealership before selling the car takes another. Both alarms are considered "original equipment". The differing remotes cannot be used on other alarms. I think the rectangular-shaped remote with FCC ID GQ43VT7T is for the factory installed alarm, while the more football-shaped remote is for a dealer installed alarm. Why Toyota has to make things so complicated, I'll never know. The factory installed alarm has an alarm warning light in the speedometer area of the dash, with the oil and battery lights, while a dealer installed alarm will have a light installed on one of the blank insert panels, near the dimmer switch. I learned this the hard way. Wiseguymmiii |
