journey into boost

has anyone here thought about venturing into an unknown
territory called "Turbo Max." i have been researching this
topic for a couple of months now and i think im gonna take
the plung. im gonna start shopping around for the exhaust
manifolds this week. and hopefully find an ecu in a junk yard
and send it out to get programmed. anyone with ideas or advice
on anything i might have to think about please let me know.
on list:
-T3/60-1 turbo
-300zx injectors and fuel pump
-custom exhaust and intercooler pipes
-computer upgrade <~~~~fuel management
-blowoff valve
-BOOST GAUGE!!!! set to 20psi :flash:

thanx, OZ

You can't really shop for an exhaust manifold because the new piping will be totally different than what you have now. I'm not sure how you're going to handle the fuel management because there isn't a dependable ECU company that can change the air/fuel or retard the timing for you.

Turboing a Maxima has been done.

-turbo maxima

the first motor blew up because of to much boost. i see that one fast max wants to run 20 lbs of boost it will do about 6 passes down the track if you let cool down before it puts a hole in a piston less if you dont cool it down. i ran mine at some local sand drags about 6 passes with 3 to 5 minutes between passes with 20 lbs . i have an mdm-100 , idont know if you guys know whay it is or not but it displays alot of the things your computer does on an lcd screen like mass air voltage ,injector pulse width , o2 sensor voltage and rich and lean as a word , water temp , inlet air temp. etc.i found out after the first motor blew up that jim wolf can tell you the max voltage you can run with a given injector. in my case the 300zx injector the max voltage is 5.11 so i now installed a boost controller (manual) and slowly turned it up the boost to 13lbs which is exactly 5.11 volts . even at this boost you are running close if you dont use high octane fuel . like 108 octane sunoco no lead and have an intercooler. normally i run 5 lbs of boost but do have the knob marked for 10lbs (which i have ran a lot and seems safe by the ammount of time i have spent running it ) and 13lbs which i only use to race with at competion hill at buttercup sand dunes or the local sand drags. tim mesic phx az

i say 20psi because im hoping by fass with nismo coming to the states and all, that along will come a super ecu sent from the heavens. meanwhile i was thinking of running 550cc injectors and a beefed up fuel pump. and with good back pressure im sure i wont open holes in any pistons.

1fastmax the 550cc injectors are gonna help alot . but the biggest problem is stock compression and you have to run race fuel past 10 psi 110 octane . the compression has to be lower to get 20 psi . the fuel wont solve the problem of pinging and it will burn a piston. also you should have forged pistons to run that boost. i am not trying to be a know it all just " been there done that " to the tune of a lot of money for a mistake . i will be building the other motor with forged pistons and lower compression . hopefully i will be successful with this the first time and not learn the hard way . tim mesic phx az

tmesic,

what fuel managment device did u use??? i was thinking of using jim wolf, due to the fact that they have been trying to develop a turbo kit for the max for the longest time now. i read of a turbo 2000 max boosting 6psi running a shitty 14.0sec 1/4 mile. my idea is matching up the right fuel input to boost pressure. which i know will not be the easiest thing but it worth a shot. as long as i can monitor my air/fuel ratio and fuel pressure, i dont think i will have a problem. any info u can supply me with, will be greatly appreciated.

thanx, OZ

1fast max i use a jim wolf ecu . as a matter of fact i went to his shop in california and he spent over an hour talking with me , until my wife came in and said she was tired of waitng. jim is a very nice and helpful guy and so is ben they have both spent a lot of time answering my ?. i purchased the ecu reprogram, mdm-100,fuel injectors, and fuel pump from jim. as for fuel pressure i got an msd-2225 from jim it an in line 125psi and i believe 45 to 50 gph which jim said good for almost 500horse power so fuel pressure is very easy to keep up with . like i said in an earlier post the mdm-100 moniters rich and lean on the two o2 sensors closest to the exhaust manifolds . so you can see if you are rich or lean unfortunatley for me when i was head to head in a race i kept thinking it made it once it can make it again well the 6 or so pass was once to many . i also thoght before i raced if it ran lean or pinged i would shut it down , but to let off and let someone win was to much for me.(note i have raced several v-8s and beat most of them ) . you can call jim wolf and talk to jim or ben they are very helpful . hope this gives you some insight . just a note i am running the 300zx injector i dont remember exact cc im sure you guys know ,it is either 370cc or 390cc . its been a while since i bought them tim mesic phx az

SOMETHING TELLS ME YOU KNOW THE ANSWER TO THAT . BUT I WILL TELL EVERYBODY ELSE .YOU GO TO THE WRECKING YARD (IN MY CASE RITEWAY AUTO PARTS PHX AZ. SEE TIM ) AND YOU GET AN ECU FROM WHAT EVER YEAR JIM TELLS YOU TO ,AND HE ALSO HAS TO CHECK SOME #S ON IT AND DOUBLE CHECKS TO MAKE SURE HE CAN DO IT . THE FIRST ONE I GOT HE SAID WAS FINE . SO I AM NOT SURE WHAT HE WAS LOOKING FOR THE ECU COST ME 40.00 . SO I STILL HAVE MY OLD ONE FOR AN EMERGENCY . TIM MESIC PHX AZ
