The ultimate Enzo conversion?

Could this new Maserati GT be the ultimate Enzo conversion?

Maserati used to be independent, but were struggling for a while and were then bought by Ferrari. Their latest GT uses a Ferrari V8.

Actually, the Maserati 4.2 is a different engine than the Modena family 3.6.

Maserati was a separate company from Ferrari, and in the 50's was their bitterest rival (moreso than Mercedes-Benz, BRM, or any other F1 competitor, because Maserati was also Italian). In the 60's, they produced such lovely cars as the Ghibli.

Unfortunately, after a HORRIBLE merger with Citroen in the 70's, Maserati was left to fend on its own (even forming a shaky alliance with Chrysler) before Fiat Auto bought up the company assets. Finally, after some internal shuffling, Ferrari bought Maserati from Fiat Auto group and introduced the gorgeous 3200GT (sold here as the Maserati Coupe GT and Coupe Cambiocorsa)

The Ferrari connection has even rekindled racing interests in this company which has F1 World Manufacturer's and World Driver's Championships, as well as Targa Florio and Le Mans victories to its name. Besides the MCC, there is a GT racing effort centered around factory and customer racing examples of the Cambiocorsa.

So, that's a little primer on this great Italian sports car manufacturer. Hope I told you something you like.

Re: The ultimate Enzo conversion?

That GT car looks hot and is definitely based on the Enzo, which I question the reasoning behind that.

Here's the test mule:

Other than being black and having a spoiler... not really... Maybe I just don't see it.

As far as converting the Enzo to the Maserati.... graft on the rear of a DTM Mercedes, use the wheels, NSX roof scoop, Corvette C5R headlamps (I think; I know I've seen those headlamps, but not sure where?)... and the rest could be pretty easily scratchbuilt by someone with talent, who I know there are plenty of around here.

Here in Italy rumors say it will use a completely new 16v 6.0!

Re: The ultimate Enzo conversion?

That should be decent conversion. This week's Autoweek magazine shows it with the following caption-

ENZO-BASED MASERATI
Maserati took the wraps off its new GT racer, the Ferrari Enzo-based contender, codenamed MCC. The car is expected to make its debut in the FIA GT Championship during the second half of the year. It features a 6.0-liter, normally aspirated V12 engine. Between eight and 10 race cars will be built in time for next year, in addition to the 25 MCS road cars that need to be constructed to satisfy FIA's homologation.
---------------------------------------------------
Hmm, wonder how much a road going version will cost?
