Neutral Safety Switch Location

I've got a 91' Cherokee Laredo. Auto Trans with floor shift. I often have trouble starting.....I can jiggle the shifter and it will start....sometimes. I have looked all over the transmission looking for the NSS. I'm pretty sure that this is my issue. I've had other issues, but will post them separately.
Thanks
GR

Here it is:

You may need to take it apart and clean it up. Here's a write up on doing just that: http://jeepin.com/features/nss/index.asp

Re: Neutral Safety Switch Location

That's it. The url gave detailed instructions. Popped it out, cleaned it up....sanded the contacts, greased it and replaced. Works like a charm.

Re: Neutral Safety Switch Location

My backup lights have been on the fritz, so I did NSS refurb. I had trouble getting the plug pulled down through the congested firewall/transmission maze. One thought on the process. On the wiper arm, there are the two contacts that the article in the link mentions. Something else to watch out for is the two little springs that live under those contacts. Watch out for all 4 of these teeny pieces! The grease in my NSS was so hard, I had to scrape some of it out with a small screwdriver. One of the contacts was stuck all the way down into it's slot and wouldn't come out without some help. Sheesh, no wonder the backup lights wouldn't work! I used a toothbrush (my wife's, not mine!) and lighter fluid to clean the grease out of the housing as well as the slots that the contacts and springs live in. It's now back in and I have backup lights for the first time in years. (There's no vehicle inspection required in Montana; good thing!)

Thanks for the link pair8hd !!!!
