My brother recently acquired a slightly used 1995 Chevrolet Lumina with almost 200,000 miles. When the trannie is in Park of Neutral there is a clunking noise accompanied by a jerk in the car that leads one to believe the vehicle is attempting to go into gear. What could be the problem?

? I had the same problem with my 95 Lumina the trannies in this car arent the best. I will be shocked if u tell me thats the original 4t60e tranny in the car with that mileage mine dies after 106,000 miles. Before it died it use to make that clunk sound when i would put her in gear and when i drove it it would act weird before it would shift into second gear. Thats a common problem for those trannies.

Tranny problem
To the best of my knowledge the vehicle acts normally when in drive. He has had it only a short time. Right now we have it up on ramps to work on it and it hasn't moved in a week.
As to the possibility of it being the original, I kinda doubt it. The switch box on top of the tranny where the gear shift linkage is had a stripped bolt which leads me to believe that there was some reason to remove it. I can only assume that it was to do work on the tranny. |
