BOV questions....

I was curious if anyone had any suggestions for a BOV. I was looking towards the greddy type-s. But I think it only dumps to the atmosphere. I have heard that this creates rough idle and even stalls sometimes do to the confusion from the MAS. if anyone has any suggestions on how to prevent this or whether I'd be better off with the HKS ssqv (I believe it vents back to the intake). I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

GReddy type-s will recirculate, and for reference the best way to be able to vent is to use a GM MAF and MAFt setup. Another less used option is VPC.

Re: BOV questions....

Are there any special things I need to get to make it recuculate? and are there really an major advantages to venting to the atmosphere? Or is it mainly for the sound?

On BOV's that will recirculate back into the intake, the place where they vent will be where you put on the line to the intake. So the extra part, if it doesn't come with your BOV.. is a recirc. hose that can be purchased from many vendors.

Also, there is no advantage to venting. It is required on some high end BOV's (tial, sard) and also on some not-so-high-end ones (RFL).

Re: BOV questions....

I would suggest and HKS SSQ as the best re-circulating BOV, and a TIAL and the best venting valve with the HKS a close second.

If your going to be pushing over maybe 15 or lower the hks would be good to vent, but if you dont vent it you could push up to 20 and if you have a big turbo you would have no problem, because it could just make it up no problem, but if your going to push up in like the 20's or some where around that and what to vent your best way to go is the tial. When i get my bigger fmic im getting a tial, because i have never heard anything bad about them, as in like leaking at high boost

from what ive heard and had on my car is that it leaks above 10 psi, but if you dont vent it it will go back in to the turbo, but if its a t-25 its harder to make that loss of boost up.

Re: BOV questions....

does is leak even with greddy upper intercooler piping? cause I was planning on purchasing that along with the bov. if you think the greddy is junk... what are your suggestions. I will be getting a ported evo 16g and fmic within 3 months of getting the bov... any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

i have a greddy fmic and it still leaks. if your getting a 16g get like a tial(the best i think but only for venting), hks(my friends turbo neon has one its nice but tial is better), or turboxs(Really loud on my friends mr2)

All I know is that you need 2 things.
1. A GM MAF
2. MAF translator (MAFt)

new, you could spend around 350 bucks for these two combined, and it SOUNDS pretty self explanatory to me, although i have not seen one up close. the GM MAF is bigger than the stock one (3 inch or 3.5 inch: found on some 5.7L chevy's) and you mount the MAFt near it.

I don't think I've heard there are any 'benefits' but it provides more flow, which is necessary in some situations (again, GSXracer as a reference, he uses one for some necessary reason, and not just to vent) but is probably beneficial slightly in all cases.

Re: BOV questions....

Does the turbo xs recirculate? and does anyone have any suggestions or feedback on the hks? Just looking to get the best for my money. I'm kinda nervous about venting to the atmosphere cause I honestly don't know enough about the tuning aspects yet. I will be getting an s-afc with the larger turbo, will that allow me to vent to the atmosphere without any trouble or getting an maf and translator? Also any suggestions on how to make the greddy not leak. My friend has one on his gst but is still runnin the t25. Suggestions are appreciated. Thanks in advance
