will springs void warranty?
I did a search but I did not see anything specific here or in the legacy forum...
I have read countless reports and articles about how upgrading your suspension will void your factory warranty. Some people say that it will void the warranty, some say it will only void the suspension part of the warranty, some say it depends on the dealer. I am itching to put a set of H&R's on my 04 legacy but I don't want to wind up having a powertrain problem in 2 years and the dealer telling me it was because of the springs and voiding the warranty.Any thoughts? This is my 1st subaru and I don't know how strict they are on mods in relation to the warranty. Thanks |

Yeah, that's what I mean... but some dealers will try to tie it in somehow and say that the springs made the ride harder and put excessive stress on the motor mounts which caused whatever...etc... I have heard all kinds of stories where dealerships try to viod warranties for dumb reasons like that. That is my concern... I just wanted to hear some other opinions and 1st habd accounts of such a thing. If it only voids the warranty on the suspension.... whatever... then I would install new springs. I guess I am just going to have to call SOA and get a solid answer. And if they confirm that springs will not void the whole warr.. I'd like it in writing... |

Re: will springs void warranty?
technically nothing voids your warranty. there was some big law suit about it...i forgot the name of the suit though. basically the dealership may try and tell you that your springs voided the warranty but it's BS. the only way the can deny work under warranty is if what you replaced directly affected the broken part.
like if you got an aftermarket clutch, you obviously cant claim warranty repair on the transmission. the only thing i see the suspension being a problem with is maybe wheel bearings and the suspension itself, which if you replaced you wouldn't be doing warranty work with and wheel bearing (unless it's a defect) are general wear and tear you're responsible for. soooo long story short..NO suspension will not VOID your warranty. here in tampa we have a "mod friendly" subaru dealer. i have complete coil overs on my impreza with a reaaaaalllllyyy stiff spring rate and they didn't mind at all, i actually got a few compliments. |

Re: will springs void warranty?
Well i sugest you not ask a forum weather or not you can replace parts on your car. Rather ask the dealer you are going to have your car serviced at. They will usualy sugest a set of springs to use. And yes a dealer can decide not to service your vehicle. I know this, i work at a dealer.
It is up to them if the wish to work on your vehicle. That law suite wasent over just the warrantee issue, it was over much more. Suspension mods can affect many things, wheel bearings, bushings, axel shafts, ect. When a vehicle is lowered it puts alot of extra stress on many components. They may deny you warrantee (repairs) at there dealer and just send you to another dealer who would do the repairs. But check with them not people who know some hear say about it. To many different opinions. |
