Will chip void warranty?
I am considering purchasing a chip for my 2003 F250 4x4 6.0 Diesel Short Bed 4 Door.
From what I have read, there is mass confusion about whether an aftermarket chip will void the manufacturers warranty. Does anybody know the real story on chips vs. warranty? Please understand that I am NOT looking for opinions, but instead, the facts about the chip vs. warranty issue. Thank you, in advance, for your assistance! Charles |

Re: Will chip void warranty?
Facts, ok.
First off, the answer is yes and no. Yes, if Ford can PROVE the chip was the cause, or was contributory to the otherwise "covered" failure, they can, and will deny the claim. The DEALER has absolutely NO say in this, they do not warrent the product, ONLY FORD does, so it would be a FORD decision. Also, ANY "GOOD" chip will not do things that would *cause* or *contribute to* a warrentable failure. The single biggest problem with warrenty and chips is the Trans. Many "tooners" really have NO CLUE that what they are doing to the engine also affects the A/T, and the PROPER changes also need to be made to the trans control programs. In my opinion, and I have seen MANY "shift kits" and "tooners" destroy A/Ts, and engines (tooners), I would suggest you contact the folks at "Superchips Custome Tuning". They are ENGINEERS, worked for FORD, and they KNOW about exactly what should, could, and MUST be changed for both the engine AND trans to live. IMO, no-one else does. With their "flasher", you set your new program into the EEC, and *should* you ever have a problem (failure) you can reset the EEC to the factory setting. They won't be able to "prove" anything. http://www.superchipscustom.com/ |
