Will remote start void warranty?

I was wandering if installing a remote start alarm on my 06 silverado will void the warranty. The installing has already begun, but it has not yet finished. I am a little worried because when I turn on the truck now the rpm goes to about 800, and then after like a minute in goes down to 500 were it should be. I think this can be due to the disconnecting of a harness to the computer, but then it was connected again, and after that this rpm problem started. Also, I thought that if I took it to the dealership to get this fixed that they coud void the warranty because of the remote start instalation. Thank you very much for any info on this.

Re: Will remote start void warranty?

I am not sure about the warranty. But I have an 04, and it normally has higher rpms when it starts then they go down to about 500 after a minute, especially if it is a little cold out. I always assumed it was because the injectors add more gas for start up and then return to normal after the engine cranks.

If you detached the computer, it probably reset the computer to factory defalts. Give it some time and it should go back to normal.

Re: Will remote start void warranty?

i am pretty sure that it cannot void the warranty unless there is a problem caused from the remote start and they can prove this to be the problem. there is a thing called the magnuss moss act and i believe it will say everything you need somewhere in there.

Re: Will remote start void warranty?

I bought mine from the dealership and had them install it. That way there could be no passing the buck if problems would arise later.

Re: Will remote start void warranty?

Federal law states that dealers and car makers can not make warranties conditional. Now, that you did it yourself, they might give you some heat but they shouldn't.

Re: Will remote start void warranty?

My truck always idles at 800 or so for a the first 30 seconds to a minute after the first crank of the day, then drops down to 500. It won't affect the warranty, or shouldn't. As long as the setup itself doesn't cause the engine to seize up or anything.

Re: Will remote start void warranty?

the law says that if they can prove that the remote start directly caused a failure of a part then they can void a warranty

Exactly. All engines will have a slightly higher idle right at first crank.
