ABS & BRAKE & AIRBAG dash lights???

I had my dash ABS and brake light come on one day and then later that day they went off and my airbag light came on. It stayed on for about a day and then shut off. When I start the truck now the airbag light flashes 6 times and then goes off. I took it into the GM dealer and they found a hot wire to the EBCM connector loose. Supposely they fixed it but the airbag light still flashes 6 times at start up. Is this normal or do you think they forgot to reset it?

Another problem I occasionally have is when I try to start the truck I get no response. No noise no attempt at starting nothing. The dash lights and headlights will come on and be bright. Sometimes if I turn off the key and try again it will start but sometimes it takes doing this 8 or 9 times to get it started. If it fails to start I just put a quick charge on the battery and it starts right up. One dealership told me it was a bad cell in my battery so I replaced it with a new battery and since then I've had it happen to me once more. Has anyone ever had this problem before and if so what caused it?

Thank you for any help or info you might be able to give me.

Re: ABS & BRAKE & AIRBAG dash lights???

It's possible it is your sensor causing your dash to light up. GMC/Chevy was having a problem with the sensors rusting, causing the lights to either light up for no reason, or not light up when there is a problem. You might want to have that checked.

Sorry I don't know I have no advice for your second problem! But, now you have a reply post!

1999 GMC Sierra 1500 Ext Cab (old body style) 305 (5.0 liter)

This weekend, I had what seemed like dying battery problems. Turn the key; lights, radio, fuel pump, etc all power up. Try to start, and just clicking. I replaced the battery with a new one (was due for a new one), and still the same thing. Then I discovered that the positive cable had considerable corrosion at the terminal connectors and post. Using baking soda and water, and a flathead screwdriver, I cleaned everything that I could down to bare metal on the cable connectors and bare lead on the side post. This did the trick. I had the old battery tested, and the guy at Checker said that it had a charge, but a shorted cell. So, even though I have the new battery and cleaned cables, I plan to replace the entire positive side cabling with new ones.

2 days later: I started having the same problems again; would have to wiggle the positive side cable while my friend kept turning the key to finally get it to start. I replaced the positive side cables with new ones from the dealer and it started right up. Here are the GM part #'s and the prices that I paid for new cables for my particular truck:

Positive:
# 12156900 $56.98
# 12157093 $47.58

Negative:
# 12156901 $26.90

Pretty expensive, but I'd rather go with oem on stuff like that. Also, the pricing above was from a Chevy dealership; the exact same cables (same part #'s) were 25% higher in price at the local GMC dealership!!!

Hope this helps!
