well... for 3000 usd, i'm not sure. how good are you with a welder and plasma cutter? and how competent are you at automotive wiring? you have to be very good at all of these to even contemplate doing the last two swaps. i've done a 3sgte swap into my mk1, all that's left is the exhaust *which i'm waiting for at the moment*. and let me tell you... it was probably the most fustrating thing i have ever done! and i'm not even sure i did all the wiring correct! i'd say lean more towards the 20v 4ag engine, i've seen a turbo one of those before... but i'm not sure if it's in that budget. with the 3sgte: you have to remember that along with the engine, you will also have to buy an intercooler that can be made to fit, new driveshafts that fit, do the mounts + wiring, and lots of various other things. paul woods did a great write-up on his adventure in making one - here's the link http://www.mr2mk1club.com/turbo.html

i wish you the best of luck with whatever you do, but of those choices either of the first two would probably be the easiest. i'd say go for the 20v or a 20v turbo if you can find one, because i assume there wouldn't be any mounts to make, you could probably use the existing hardware.

most likely going 20vavle

after a few minutes of going back and forth between the 20 vavle specs and the 4agze specs theres not much of a diffrence so im going to go 20 vavle. but heres my issue. Can i just buy the motor or do i need the harness and ecu?

awesome, you will definately need the ecu, but that usually comes with the engine (as a package, engine, tranny and ecu). i suggest you contact Bill Strong if you really want to know more, he's on this forum evey now and then but is the power over at the mr2 boards http://www.board.mr2faq.com

he has a 20v powered mk1, and would probably be the best person to ask. check around on those boards, i'm sure he's written something about it. gl with the swap! keep us posted!

Take the 3k and buy a cheap mk2 turbo, MBC and intake. Way more power than the swap will make, and more potential

Dude! I have two AW11s (MKI MR2). Get a cherry-bomb or glass-pack muffler, straight pipe your cat, and header. Make your own intake so that the air has a strait shot to the intake manifold. Buy the WEB RACING #577 grind cams. Raise your fuel pressure to about 57 psi. You'll be pulling 15 flat. That 4A-GE is a good engine. Get a light flywheel and light pulleys; you'll have a real rocket.

My yellow MR2 had cams, intake, exhaust and would torch any neon, civic, eclipse, whatever...

It was faster to 30 than the TransAms and SSs that ruled the streets.

Re: fed up help me choose a motor to swap

faster to 30? where will that count? and "striaght piping" everything will only lose torque if its N/A. Just buy and SW20.

I've heard that the staight pipes causes loss in the low end but seeing as how I tried it and it made it faster, even in the low end, I'd say its not true. And what's 0-30 good for? How about The LS1 powered F-Bodies meeting me at the stop light and I rev the engine, the guy in the SS or Trans AM honks and says no race because he doesn't want to be seen being scorched off the line. How is that for a power trip? Between stoplights, I was fast enough they have no Idea I'm only pulling 15s!

Re: fed up help me choose a motor to swap

Get 7rib block, second gen GZE? Upgrade it, play around with it. Much quicker route to power then 20valve. Naturally aspirated route takes too much time/money/etc...

GZE route can go turbo so can the 4age NA but.. the older 4age block well.. not good for turbo route.. of course after market fuel managment, spark, etc... would be required for reliability/maximum performance/fuel mpg/etc... stock computer is pooey.

So bottom line imo is last 4agze you can get your hands on Plus if i'm not mistaken the 4agze has far more torque then any other 4age.
