2001 silverado 5.3 wich exhaust?
just curious I was thinking of putting a new exhaust (cat back system) to improve on milage and a little more power what are the better ones out there, is it nessecary to spend a lot on a name brand or could I get a cheaper one and get same results and how much louder will it be, I still want to hear the radio, and what is the cheapest place to order one from

I have a 01 2500 6.0 ext cab 4x4 and i went with a flowmaster 50 series dual in dual out system and i love the sound is nice a deep at all the right speeds. Ive noticed about 2-3 miles per gal increase but most of the time my foot is on the heavy side but its still better than what it was. i wouldnt say it was real loud but it will turn heads. The power increase was one of the bigest things I noticed. I hope this helps you make a good choice. price wise it was more exspensive than most of the other mufflers b/c it was dual in dual out ($150) but most of the other mufflers are in the 100-120 range for flowmaster.

Catbacks are gonna cost you some change for the expensive brands. My Borla catback was around $500. It's a great system. Little to no sound at idle, but wide open, most of my friends associate it with the sound of a vette. Flowmaster is a really good sounding system, the only thing is that it does restrict some exhaust from being exited at a faster pace than other "turbo" style mufflers. The chambers inside the Flowmaster are what give it its aggresive note, whereas my Borla is a straight through design. Its definately not as loud as the Flowmaster, but I did notice an increase in horsepower with the straight through Borla. Two other brands you might be interested in would be Gibson and Magnaflow. Both of these brands have been proven to be of excellent quality, and the Gibson catback is a very inexpensive system. My first question to you would be if you are planning to run headers? If so, then I would suggest you run a true dual magnaflow with single inlet/single outlet designs. You should also run an xpipe to even things out. If emissions isn't a problem for you where you live, I would suggest cutting or gutting your catalitic converters. If you do this you would have to buy some things know as O2 simulators. These are used to plug into your rear O2 sensors. These will "trick" your O2 sensors into thinking everything is ok, that way the computer in the truck will not know the cats aren't there. This is a huge increase in power, and it will definately sound mean as hell!

I went with the Flowmaster 70 series single in dual out. It has just the right sound for me, a nice rumble but still sort of quiet and it is still much better then the stock "they say".
The 50 series is very nice also, little louder, but I highly recomend staying away from the 40 series unless you realy want loud. I dont know how it affected my gas mileage i never checked it before the exhaust change. but now i m getting around 13 mpg in the city. on my 2000 gmc sierra i got flowmaster series 40 single in dual out sorta a mistake i think i wish i would have spent the extra $$$ and got true dual. but it is still loud once i got my edlebrock headers i noticed it got deaper and louder. which is what i wanted. thinking about cutting my cats but i dont want the raspy, crackling. sound. but i guess it just depends on how much money and how loud you want to go.
