I have a 2001 Caravan Sport that the a/c & Heater fan only runs on high speed. This is the same for the panel controls and the back seat controls as well. Since its getting some power I'm guessing its not the fuses. Not being much of a car guy I could use some suggestions. Thanks in advance!!!

This is usually an indication of a bad resistor block. For all speeds, except high, the switch diverts the power return lead (to ground), through the resistor block. On high, the return lead is directly connected to ground. I don't know where the resistor block is on a vehicle that new, but someone with a service manual should know.

The resistor block is under the wiper module on firewall, passenger side, you may or may not have to remove the wiper module to get at the resistor.

You want to be careful if you are replacing the resistor pack.
Sometimes the reason that the pack goes out is that the fan motor is drawing to much current. (due to going bad.) If this is the case and you replace the pack, it could burn out again within a very short time. Only way to know for sure is to check the current the motor draws and see if it is within specs for the motor. Sorry I don't know what it might be though.... DR |
