Constant Buzzing in my 99

After turning the ignition I get a high-pitched buzzing noise that is quite audible.....especially when standing outside the vehicle. The noise continues for a moment after the engine is shut down. Is this normal? Fuel injection possibly? It doesn't seem to be diminishing the performance of the car. Does anyone in the forum have any experience with this? Thanks for help

Gil

Angry

My 99 HAD exactly the same noise - and last night while travelling along - the car just quit dead - it was dangerous and my wife and two young girls were with me (not to mention it was 0 degree outside!)
The vehicle was towed away. This morning I just talked to the shop and he said he's seeing a lot of Tahoes and Suburbans - especially in the cold - failing. I mentioned it had been buzzing and the dealerships said it was normal - get use to it. The garage said BS - it's the beginning of a long, drawn out death march. Mine is being replace for $500 today. I'm not thilled - but it will be great to not hear that noise anymore! And GM better be careful - I saw some other comments /complaints about the danger of the part failing - not cool.

Does sound like the fuel pump. Go to the rear of the vehicle and see if that is where the humm/buzz comes from. Had mine checked out a couple of times and was told that it was common and not a problem. I have also noticed that the humm is louder when there is less fuel in the tank.

Is the fuel pump buzz only heard in the models with vortec from 1996-1999? I have a 95 non vortec suburban, and I've never heard that noise, I've heard it on my friend's 96,97,and 98 suburban, but I haven't heard it in any 2000 or above suburban yet.

Unhappy my 99 sub buzz

My 99 sub has been making this whinning buzz for quite some time it was so loud my father-in-law got off his porch to investigate. His concearn led him to called his brother (a chevrolet dealership mechanic) who told him that it sounded like it was my fuel pump and that it was about to "go out". This morning my truck was dead. This sound like a common problem to me. I say class action guys. I don't want to pay $500.00 for a fuel pump that I din't mess up to begin with. Ya Know?

buzizng noise

We just purchased a 99 Suburban and I was wondering what the jigh pitched noise was. Thanks for all the good informaiton aobut the fuel pump. the majority of you think the fuel pump is Ok and the nois eis common. However, those of you that think it is because of a fuel pump that is bad or about to go bad, any suggestions as to prevention? Thanks

Re: Constant Buzzing in my 99

It is the fuel pump. I replaced mine myself on my 99 454. Wasn't to bad. Make sure you use an OEM fuel pump. Aftermarket pumps don't work. After I replaced it, it was much quieter. I think they make more noise when they are dying.

Re: Constant Buzzing in my 99

Fuel pump all right but why spend 500 on one you can buy one at carquest, Advance auto or other places (Lifetime warranty if you change strainer at the same time) complete pump, filter and strainer for under 100 dollars O-YA you have to get dirty to put it in. Save 400 get dirty sounds fun to me (Just did it on the 5th)

Re: Constant Buzzing in my 99

I have a 98 suburban K1500, 1st pump went out in December of 2003, 2nd pump around May of 2004, 3rd pump on July 2, 2004, now on my 4th pump I was told the electrical connection on the pump was bad. I replaced the connector, pump is still very noisy, almost scared to drive it.

Re: Constant Buzzing in my 99

Hey junyar
Dumb questions but did you replace the strainer and filter in the tank and line when you changed the pump. And the connector is not th one on the pump, the 4 connector plug at the top of the assy is the one that goes bad

later
