Hello, I'm a n00b and here's my project 'Trailblazer SS'
For everyone interested, I'm a new member and have had my eye on the Trailblazer SS concept for some time now. I'm in the midst of building one myself and begin the turbo process next spring. I have already invest quite a bit into the interior (audio/video system) and put a lot of work into the exterior and had planned on ordering 20's this spring, but have had emails from magazines who want to run stories on it based primarily on the interior, but I don't like the way the exterior looks yet w/o the wheels/tires. I may bite the bullet and order them early and put them on for photos and then garage them for the stockers to get me through the Colorado winter.
I will do a T-88 turbo and anticipate 700+hp based on past projects. I'm looking for a good deal on a 4.2L so that I can begin the build through the winter. I will lower the compression to 8.5:1 to avoid pre-detonation with running high boost levels, probably go with some JE pistons. Once I'm into the block, I can assess the build and see what type of crank is used, have it knife edged, and go with some Crower rods that are 2mm shorter. Have the whole rotating assembly balanced and then on to the head. There I will add oversized valves and do a port and polish job on the head with a 5 angle valve job. I'll use double springs and titanium retainers to keep everything happy as I plan to raise the rev limiter to take advantage of higher rpm power output. A front mount intercooler will take care of cooling the charge air temp. I kicked around air to water, but in a day to day application, it's not practical. The transmission in this is a copy of the one used in the ram air Firebird so there are upgrades available and then I'll bolt up the Escalade full time AWD transfer case to hold the power. I'm currently running 3.73's and will go to 4.10's for better acceleration. Should be a pretty extensive project, but I'm doing what I think GM and other manufacturers should be. They excite everyone with SS or R/T emblems (My '00 Dakota 5.9 R/T was junk) and then make them no faster than a Kia. I'm tired of them bastard-izing (can I say that here?) cherished American icons such as SS or R/T but slapping it on anything with 1" larger wheels and pin striping (Neon R/T ... please). So, there you are. I have lots of pics of the progress, but don't see anywhere to post it here. I have them in a gallery on another Trailblazer forum, but don't want to ruffle any feathers posting it up here. Sorry. I'll keep you all posted on the progress.
