Hole in Sub

Yesterday i allowed my 9 year old brother to ride with me in the car. When i opened my trunck he saw my subwoofers. Of course being 9 years old he wants to play with them. After being told not to he proceeded to anyway. Anyways he managed to make a small incision on the foam or something like that around the outside of the subwoofer. I am sort of new at the hole car audio deal and don't have any cash to spend and i was wondering if it would mess up the sound at all and if so is there something i can repair it with? Thanks

Re: Hole in Sub

you can patch the hole pretty easily because I've heard it being talked about on the big car audio forums. I don't know what to use to patch it though, do a search on www.soundillusions.net or www.caraudioforum.com and I'm sure you'll get more results than you would ever care to read.

I dont know how to repair it, but I know you need to because Iv heard a sub with an incision in the foam....it sounds worse then shit. It sounds like it is just blowing air, which is basically all its doing.

Re: Hole in Sub

If there is a whole throught the surround (foam part), then it'll sound like crap if it's big enough. the front and rear soundwaves will be interfering and you'll get nasty bass sound. Get some sort of patch (possibly those bicycle tires repair kit?). Make sure it's not too thick or else you'll alter the subwoofer. SOmething that is thin should do well. Don't add too much adhesive either.
