How many miles can you get out of Cavalier

I have a 1989 Cavalier with 210,000 miles. It has been an extremely reliable vehicle, which started as my college car. Although I also have a 97 Grand Am and a 99 Grand Prix GTP (which my wife drives), I still drive my Cavalier to work everyday. It has actually become a challenge of sorts to see how many miles I can actually get out of this thing. I have been through about 4 alternators, a water pump, heater core, and have replaced the head/valve cover(?). I paid $4,000 for the car which had 60k miles at the time, and I am uncertain as to what had been replaced prior to that.

My neighbor said that his father has a Cavalier with 300,000 miles, and I was just wondering how far others may have been able to take theirs.

107,000 and calling it quits

My '93 Cavalier RS 2.2 2-Door has been falling apart for years, but I have been stringing it along for a while. I missed out on the head gasket replacement under the hidden recall so it needs a water pump seal now, the afforementioned head gasket, and tires. That is what I know it needs, exhaust can't be too far along as it is original. I don't want to sink over $1000.00 into a car that might need another $500 to $1000 down the road (clutch, exhaust, rusting problem, who knows what else). I did get a lot of years out of it and only had one really pricy repair I did (wheel bearings).

I am officially calling it quits for this car, I am going to either junk it or give it to a local charity that can fix it with donated labor.

I probably could do the seals and gaskets myself, but I don't have the time to learn the job or the tools to do it.

I did go with another Chevy though and hope to get as many good years out of it as I did the Cavalier.

I also was in 2 accidents resulting in re-end re-builds and the hood was painted for vandalism. These repairs are also going bad as well.

As a note, it might be worth a little haggling with the Insurance carrier of anyone that is at fault in an accident to get future depretion compensation. I had repairs that were as much as 10 years old that where a contributing factor to my decision to not repair this vehicle.

I've got a 99 ls 2.4 with 178,000 miles on it. Other than brakes every 40,000 the only thing major i've had to replace is an alternator at about 156,000.I am very pleased with the reliability of this car.
