Bragging Rights

Ok here is the forum where we all find out who has the biggest and baddest ZJ out there. Tell us what ya got!!!!!

I'll start.......
'96 ZJ Laredo

Sound System- (ear plugs advised) 2 12in MTX Thunder 8000 subs in a custom made box with amp rack, powered by one of two amps- 2000 watt class D Boss or MTX 6500D. Two pairs of 6.5 in pioneer woofers in doors all with external tweeters, all running to four crossovers and then to a new high definition Eclipse 4 channel amp. Lastly, The system is controled by a Pioneer DEH-P8400 (one hell of a bad ass deck). Currently a total of 10 great speakers. Plans for a fold down Concept 7 inch flat screen and PS2 are in the works, as well as a CD changer mounted in the center console. Also plan to strip out entire interior and cover every square inch possible with dynomat sound dampening material.

Exterior- Removed luggage racks due to excessive rattling, westin pushbar with driving lights, hidden hitch towing package, 3 inch Rancho suspension lift with additional 1 3/4'' coil spacers on the back axle, Rancho RS5000 Shocks, 32x11.50 BFG Mud Terrains mounted on polished aluminum 15x8 American Racing Python rims.

Drivetrain- currently stock 4.0L, but have plans on dropping in a mopar V8 very soon, either 318 or 360, with flowmaster 2 chambered exhaust and several other performance mods. Any advice on this would be appreciated. I've also thought about boring out the 4.0 to 4.7 or 4.9 but not sure of how much reliability and headache that will cause. this jeep is no longer a daily driver, but it is driven fairly frequently and not just offroad. Real head turnner! lol

Alright so now it's your turn what do you got!!????

Re: Bragging Rights

Get the V8, then hook it up with two aluminum heads from edelbrock. Thats what I'm planning to do with my 5.2. Will boost your power and give you an awsome sounding exhaust.

Right now I have a bone stock 95GCL with the 5.2 (318) and a factory Infinity Gold that works but doesnt have a display (any suggestions?) But back in the day, probably before most of you were born I had a 76 Cherokee S with the 258 (now a days its the 4.0 L) That I reworked. I bored it .30 over, used higher compression pistons an efficency cam as it was an every day ride as well as for off road, used a pair of charter single barrel carbs on a custom made adaptor and splitthe exhaust out to a dual usinf a header made to do just that (a hooker) and fed a pair of thrush side pipes that were designed to protect the side panels of 4x4s. It wasnt a stellar performer on the highway but between that setup and the quadratrac it would idle up a brick wall. Traction loss was the only thing that could stop it and that happened only once, when I dropped the front end into a hidden spring and "high centered" the frame almost dead center on the hard ground next to the spring. When you are talking 4wd you dont want a heavy mill that develops it's peak torque at an rpm that is above the speed you will normally be driving at and remember, Low eange is meant for two things the first is to assist in hauling weight in difficult conditions and secondly to get you through what the high range cant. When you hang yourself up while driving with the xfercase in low and the tranny down there as well, all thats left is to go get drunk and tattooed (if you dont get it ask your grandfather adout getting stewed and tattooed)

Scott

Update: I have since fixed the display on the INFINITY in the 95 GC Limited with one minor modification. When I re soldered the two current limiting chip resistors I carefully removed the solder at one end and cut a small H shaped heat sink out of copper. it is small enough so that one leg of the H was attached to the resistor with heat sink ADHESIVE and the other leg was soldered into the junction where I removed the solder. I used EXTRA solder, to aide in heat sinking as well. The leg of the H shaped heat sink that was glued to the resistor is small enough so that the process can be repeated at the other end of the same resistor. I did this on both resistors so the original problem shouldn't ever reoccur.
WARNING: On 97 and newer vehicles the Infinity sound system has a built in security system that will require the input of a "password" (numeric code) to re-enable the stereo ANY TIME power is disconnected from it. This includes replacing the battery. I have been told that connecting a standard 9 volt battery to the electrical system. Now I have not verified this, but if the cigarette lighter is not switched by the ignition system, you should be able to hook a 9volt battery clip to a cigarette lighter plug (both parts from radioshack) THROUGH a simple rectifier diode (needed to protect the 9volt battery from the 12 volt automotive battery), remember to observe polarities when doing this.

I loved Ol' Sherman T (as in tank), when my niece was out of the crib I grabbed her crib mattress as it fit perfectly between the wheel wells, slept in it camping when the weather went too bad for the tent more than once and it was great for going to the drive in movies in, I put over 350K on that beast on the original engine and rebuilt it for more torque at about 225K. Between body rot and an electrical fire he passed away in a fitting manner for a jeep... Off ROAD!

5.9 Zj

How about this, even tho it's some what stock it's fast.
1998 5.9 Limited just about everything Jeep put on a GC ZJ, I have a set of factory Trans coolers one is for a V8 and the other is for the 4.0, I'm going to use the 4.0 cooler as a power steer cooler, but i'm not sure if i'm going to use the other for the trans, it seems to small for the big full size truck trans. I also have a Fram Air Hog Air cleaner, I did not want to spend $$ on a full setup air tube because I have been talking with Vortec about the Jeep kit (the kit is a 318 only) but they get upset when I talk about fitting it to a 5.9.

It has the off road package and towing group, and it just hit 45,003 today.

Mods to be added soon are the Up Country package and rear swing out tire carrier and Pro Comp Shocks, and I have a factory CD changer sitting next to me to be added when I have time to take up my carpet or take it to Best buy and have them add it in. I also have a bud thats adding the new E head in his Durango, i'm going to see how fun it is then I will make up my mind if i'm going to have it done by myself or somebody else, thats along with the hedders and intake.
