Thinning Tamiya syntheyic lacquer for airbrush...
Hello everyone,
I'm in the process of getting back into car modeling &, I've been reading this forum (& learning alot) for the past month. I'm currently buying paint supplies for my first project, & have one question. What do you guys use to thin Tamiya synthetic lacquers for airbrushing?...or do you not thin it? I'll be getting the "TS" line of spray cans & transferring them to the airbrash paint cup/bottle. Any help will be much appreciated by this newbie! Thanks, David |

Since you are draining them from the spray can, I don't think you need to thin them down anymore. When I did that using the testor's cans, I didn't thin them down.

Thanks guys!
Just out of curiosity, what would I thin it with if it wasn't the spray can type? It is synthetic lacquer...can regular lacquer thinner be used? Thanks again, David |

Re: Thinning Tamiya syntheyic lacquer for airbrush...
I use Creos (Gunze) Mr. Thinner to thin Mr. Color, and since it:s compatible with Tamiya spray, the thinner should work. A few well stocked hobby stores carry it outside Japan, and compatible thinner should work. Try google and look for how to thin Mr. Surfacer bottle, and you should be able to find the compatible brands. Hot lacquer thinner has a chance of crazing the plastic.

I use automotive lacquer thinner if I'm spraying over primer or another color coat, it works fine.
