Service Engine Light - Problem fixed.. (note for Flatrater)

Hi Flatrater:
Hope you had a nice Christmas. As I said, I went to delaer and got in service bays right away. (No lineups so soon after Christmas).
Would you believe that fixing the problem made my vallet $ 350.00 CND - lighter (Actually VISA card) (:-(
Here what they done:

Complaint: Report Cause of Check Engine Light on. Had codes PO1133 and P 1133 in system.

Cause:
OBDII Diagnostic Test. PCM DTC'S PO133 HO2S 1 Insufficient switching, P1133 Ho2S 1 to few cross counts. Test HO2S sensor position 1, Trace to failed sensor.

Correction: Replace position 1 heated oxygen sensor, clear code and test operatio,, condition corrected.

Twenty years ago, the service report was understanable also to us, the awarage Joe motorists. It will make sense to you.
Now, I will go back to the automotive teacher who already pinpointed the problem and ask him why he could not offer me to replace the faulty part himself (with students).
My wife almost fainted when I showed her the invoice.
Thanks again Flatrater for you input on this, Have a good and prosperous New Year !

Re: Service Engine Light - Problem fixed.. (note for Flatrater)

Thats kinda high!! I know the O2 sensor is about 130 US dollars the labor is only 1/2 hour. it shouldn't of been more than 200 to fix. I'm sorry that is costs soo much. I know this won't help you now but if and when you buy another car get an extended warranty from the dealership. It may add 1000 dollars to the price but spread over 4 years it only adds a slight amount to the monthly payment. The best one to get on a GM car is called GMPP or General Motors protection plan. They have different levels of coverage for differnt prices.

Now what they are saying is the O2 wasn't switching which means:

O2 sensor the base is about 400 millivots for a O2 sensor to switch it has to go above and below the base to be switching. If it doesn't switch the sensor can't signal the computer to adjust the air/fuel ratio. This may be alittle hard to understand by the sensor measures unburnt fuel in the exhaust if it has too much unburned fuel the sensor will read high above 455 mv and the opposite for not enough gas. The computer will add or subtract fuel to the air mix. That is all the sensor does.
