Cold Start Prblm 93 S-10 Blazer 4.3L

Hi, I am having a problem with cold starting my blazer:
'93 S-10 4WD 4.3L Vortec.

After sitting over 14 hours or so it takes several tries to start.
The starter seems to be cranking fine and no strange noises.
Once it starts there is initial light colored smoke and fuel odor.
It starts fine the rest of the day (with some smoke).

What has been done:
- taken to service shop they changed the fuel injector / regulator assembly. (I use the vehicle a lot so it didn't have a chance to sit)
- then noticed same problem when sat long time (a day and half).
- went to the dealer thinking there was more of a problem. They said problem was the fuel injector / regulator assembly. I told them was just changed and went back to the service station and they replaced the part again (they got the first one from the same dealer I went to).

- well, the problem still occurs.

- Is the shop "forgetting" something when they change the assembly?
- Is there another area to look at?

Other recent work:
- replaced leaking fuel tank.
- replaced fuel pump strainer (pump is working).
- replace fuel filter.

I have been looking at prior posts and most say the injector assembly (is that what a "CPI" is?). I have done that - twice so far. Not many resources here on Oahu. I will continue to look through other posts.

I hope this is detailed enough but, not too verbose Thanks for your help.

CPI is central port injection. That's the type of injection system the vehicle is equipped with. Since you are on Oahu, I assume when you say cold start, you just mean when the engine has had plenty of time to cool off. I can't imagine it gets very cold on Oahu. Have the air/fuel mixture checked. From the smoking it sounds like you might be getting too much fuel. That could cause smoke when the excess fuel burns. Have a compression test done on the engine also. You could be losing compression. If you are, then it is probably a cylinder head gasket, which could be allowing oil and/or coolant into the combustion chamber. When either one of these fluids burns, it would cause smoking also. A loss of compression would also cause problems with the engine starting. If it's not a big loss in compression, then the engine wouldn't have too much trouble starting up once it's warmed up a bit because the seals and gaskets would have expanded and given you back some of the compression it had lost. Just be sure to always let your engine warm up for a couple of minutes(now and after the problem is fixed) so that your seals and gaskets are able to expand before taking off. Otherwise, you could be putting everything under too much pressure. Hope that helps.
