Idle problem

aight everyone, just lookin for some confirmation or serious mocking on this one. the 89 IROC i bought has been giving me troubles with cold starts, and startin after it has been sitting for a while. i have absolutly no history of anything done to it, the guy i bought it from only had it a year, and didnt know the people he bought it from. but it runs good. ive done a tune up, cap rotor plugs wires, wire looms and set the timing. and then the trans promply took a dump. so now i go out to start itup and keep everythign fresh, but it wont keep running till it warms up. i havent done any diagnostics, im feelin kinda lazy (just repaired four of my families cars, major work, very tired) so im kinda lazyboy wrenching on this one. so here it is, i start it, and where most cars would idle at around 1500 or 1200, the idle wont stabilize, it just keeps dropping till the engine stalls and dies. start itup, same thing, if i press the throttle, purrs like a kitten, when it warms up, it idles just fine. but it only does it when its cold, and when its been sitting for a while. im thinking its my IAC, or maybe an ICM, i would say it could be colt start enrichment but i dont think the computer is fried. so i dont think thats it. it also has a brand new interstate megatron battery. the only thing i havent really tested is the alternator. but i havent noticed a charging problem on the instrument panel. only when its dying, so i cant tell if the charge is dropping because of the rpms dropping, or the other way around. this should be a fun one. RELEASE THE HOUNDS!!!!

Re: Idle problem

Iroc Iroc Iroc...this saddens me to read that you have not ran it for codes. That's your signature advise. So here I am to save the day. Run you car for codes, you can do this by.....nah..I can't belittle you like that. But I had the same problem with my v6 like a week after I bought it. check your maf. Sound dumb?? that's what I thought too. But that was the problem. I don't think it's your ignition coil, but hey shit happens, like psyde said, it happened to him. I've heard of crazier things. Umm..vacuum lines. Ah, and your computer, get a chip..lol j/k your spark advance is controlled by your computer, you might want to check that out too. And I almost forgot...run it for codes..

Re: Idle problem

ah 92RS, what would i do without you and i applaud you for the self control on the procedure, must have been hard for ya ill probly run the codes after xmas. but like i said, ive been staying hours after work fixing family cars, and im just tired. christmas presents and all, i happend to fire it up and move it the other night, and thats what reminded me there was a prob, just didnt feel like messing with it. but i haddent even thought about the maf sensor, thats a good one. ill look into that. as far as vac lines and a chip and whatnot, drove home without a stumble 1100 miles from arkansas, so im pretty sure its a part or something that is just failing, rather than a computer prob. just my gut feeling but thanx for the advice.
