'Stang gold mine!

I was at my uncle's house over the weekend and I never took notice of all his cars he has 'laying' around. I took a look at them and he has like 8 Mustangs(old ones). Very nice. He fixes them up and what not. Even better, he told me if I helped him fix up this '70(dunno year, but I think its around here) he'd give it to me. I'm happy. I really don't feel like going into a lot of detail here, but he has some other nice cars too. He had a 64 GT 'Stang, GTO, Dodge Charger... I wanna go back!

Re: 'Stang gold mine!

A free car is a free car, go get it. There is a guy that owns a junkyard near me in Holmes Co. Fla. with an unbelieveable collection of muscle cars and most of them are Mustangs. Some of them are project cars and some are show ready. I have never seen one of them on the road or at a show and most people don't even know they are there. I stumbled upon them while searching for parts a couple of years ago. I counted 2 67 Camaros, 1 68, 1 69 Z28, 1 66 Chevelle 454, 3 70 Chevelles, and one of them is a Yenko! I saw more 64-70 Mustangs than I could count. Among them were convs, mach 1s, a Boss, Shelbys, and the only GT 500 I have ever seen. Needless to say there is much to drool over sitting in the woods of North Fla. What sux about all of it is they all just sit there. He never drives them, shows them and very few people even get to see them. It almost made me want to fight when he refused every offer I made. None are for sale for any price, even the unrestored ones sitting in the woods. I just hate to see so much potential going to waste, but at least he is in the process of restoring them all so they will be in safe hands for now. No one lives forever so one day they will be passed on to make some lucky hot rodder very happy.

I have ran across of few places like that.

One was a 65 Fastback wasting away in a field. Taked to the owner, and he said it will stay there no matter what. No money will ever be enough for someone to buy it. So, it just sits there

What a waste.

Re: 'Stang gold mine!

I know how you feel man, about 3 years ago, I came across a Karmen Ghia Convertible sitting rusting in a field when I was out hunting one day.... I tracked down the owner and asked him what he would sell it for... He stated he wouldnt.... I came across it 2 months later, and somehow the thing had caught fire..... and now is totally beyond repair or restoration... made me want to cry.

Re: 'Stang gold mine!

I have another example of the classic "car in a field story", but I intend for this one to have a happy ending. Due to obivous reasons I won't go into detail about the location but I know of a 68 Camaro conv. sitting in a barn in south Alabama. Safe from rain, the sun, and prying eyes. Needs restoration but it is a very solid car, almost too good to be true I can't find any rust. It has the original 350/4spd, to the owners knowledge anyway. It belonged to her husband who died 15 years ago! It is still patiently waiting to be rescued, the difference is this one is for sale and I am the only person that knows about it who wants it. It was brought to my attention at a family renunion by my Grandfather who knew the owner and thought I might be interested. He had to explain the rest from the passenger seat of my car as I made him take me to it right then. That was 4 months ago and the car is still there, but it soon will be mine. We agreed on a price of $4000 and as soon as I save about another grand it will be on a trailer headed to my house.

Re: 'Stang gold mine!

It's not much too look at yet, you can poke holes in the top with your finger and it's covered in about 1/8 inch of dust, inside and out. To my surprise when I opened the door I discovered a nest of red wasps hanging from the steering wheel which is normal for south Al, but still an unplesant experience. No problem though, they'll be gone with the first frost and I won't have the money before then. As soon as I get it home I'll get some pics up, untill then I'll be pondering what to do with it, keep it all original or go pro street. What do you think?

Depends on the cost of restoring it. I always look at cars as a realist. If I can spend the money and recoup most of it back I would restore it. But, if your going into it as a money pit. Build it the way you want too.

Thats what I did to my Cougar. Sure the purest gave me hell, screw them. I do not have that much cash to make it concourse, so I built it my way.

Re: 'Stang gold mine!

I really doubt I'll take it back all original. As sweet as that would be, an attitude would be even better. The 350 will become a 383 at the least, but I like the idea of a 427. Nuttin like a big block! The standard is a must also. I'm not familiar with a 68 Chevy but I'm sure it won't stand up to what I want to do. Richmond or Borg Warner 6spd possibly? I've got alot of research to do, been about 16 years since I've been around an old Camaro, My dad was die hard Chevy and I grew up wondering why someone would build anything other than a 396/427. Just didn't know what a small block Ford was capable of yet. Under all the dirt it is a dark blue I think, it's still original. What do you think of the same color blue as my IROC(it's in gallery). Any ideas of how to fit the wheel/tire combo from an 06 Vette under there? The seats would be cool too. Too many choices. Open to any input.

Sounds like a RESTO-MOD in the making.

The wheels can fit, hell I put Cobra R rims on my Eliminator. Used wheel spacers, but I had to change out the wheel studs.

I installed Recaro Seats in it as well. So, I am all for the the seat conversion.

383 sounds awesome. That would be the way I would go, but I do like the 327 better.

I would love to see some pics

Re: 'Stang gold mine!

Don't have any pictures yet, I've only seen it twice and I probably won't again until I pick it up, hopefully about a month. I'm still hurting from Christmas. Soon as I take them they'll be up.
