Angry changing out the starter.....Complicated?

Well, my '93 taurus will not start and i know it is not the battery b/c i already tried jumping it, plus my headlights work. And it is not a bad connection from the battery to the starter (I think). So i am come to the conclusion that it is the starter that needs to be replaced...here are the symptoms i turn the ignition and it turns twice and no more like it is losing juice. So i am going to go and buy a starter, but i am at college right now away from my father's and I's garage; and i need some info on what tools (specific) i need to complete this job, and how easy is it to do. I am new to this site but not to forums and i would appreciate any info someone could give. thanks rreed

Re: changing out the starter.....Complicated?

Easy swap. This should be no problem with a set of ramps, a set of metric wrenches and ratchets. I did the one one my SHO a couple weeks ago. Do yourself a favor and make sure that the new starter looks exactly like the old(Just to be safe). Count the number of teeth on the drive gear.

You may just need to clean out the whole assembly. Sometimes, dirt and oil will get packed in the motor and cause a bad connection. You can also have it rebuilt with new brushes and springs pretty cheaply.

If I were you, I'd take the old starter out and see what the problem is before you lay down the cash for a new unit. You may get lucky.
